Summary of This Role
This position drives the roadmap, execution, and strategy for our Tax & Compliance portfolio; the engine that ensures our payroll platform stays accurate, compliant, and ahead of evolving federal, state, and local regulations. This role partners closely with engineering, compliance/legal, tax operations, customer service, and payroll teams to implement high-accuracy, audit-ready, regulatory-compliant features.
What You’ll Do
Own and execute the product roadmap for payroll tax and compliance capabilities, prioritizing features based on regulatory deadlines, risk exposure, and client impact
Lead the strategy for managing tax rules, rates, limits, reciprocity agreements, and local ordinance changes across all states
Partner with compliance and legal teams to translate new legislation into system requirements
Coordinate with MasterTax and Vertex teams to ensure correct data flow, calculation accuracy, and coverage
Oversee implementation of compliance frameworks including wage & hour rules, garnishment logic, and certified payroll
Own end-to-end delivery of compliance features from requirements and acceptance criteria through design, development, testing, and release
Ensure the platform meets deadlines for quarterly and annual filings, W-2/1099 processing, year-end updates, and statutory rate changes
Serve as the subject matter expert for all payroll tax and compliance behavior in the system
Collaborate with engineering, QA, tax operations, client services, and onboarding teams to ensure alignment
Participate in PAC meetings, release planning, and roadmap reviews
Provide clear guidance to internal departments on regulatory changes and timelines
Partner with sales and marketing on collateral related to tax and compliance features
What Are We Looking for in this Role?
Experience
6+ years in product management, payroll operations, tax technology, or compliance-related domains
Hands-on experience with payroll tax rules, filings, and compliance obligations for multi-state employers
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of payroll tax rules (federal, state, local), wage & hour compliance, and employer reporting requirements
Experience with tax engines or partners such as MasterTax, Vertex, or similar
Familiarity with IRS/SSA schemas, SUTA/SUI frameworks, W-2/1099 reporting, and quarterly/annual filings
Working knowledge of APIs, data mapping, import/export schema design, and secure file data transfers
Leadership & Communication
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with compliance and legal partners
Skilled at communicating regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
