Roles & Responsibilities

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience managing a team within a mainframe environment in a large enterprise (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
  • Technical knowledge across multiple Mainframe teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to create client-ready documentation

Requirements:

  • Install, test, and implement new operating systems and system software in the mainframe environment (z/OS and related ISV products), including maintenance and tuning of systems software
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (CICS, Database, Network, Hardware/Storage) to accomplish tasks; diagnose and resolve incidents and problems; monitor and optimize performance
  • Research and evaluate new software and hardware products; lead complex ISV installations and software lifecycle activities
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff; assist team members with technical questions; manage multiple projects simultaneously and support client-facing activities

Job description

Position Summary  

The Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Includes: Maintenance and debugging of systems software, Coordination with other technical teams (CICS, Database, Network, Hardware/Storage, etc) in accomplishing assigned tasks, Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, Assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution, Monitoring and tuning of systems software, Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, and other z/OS supporting systems software. Note: This is not an Applications Programming position. 

 

Key Areas of Focus for this Role  

  • Installation and maintenance of Mainframe Systems Infrastructure software (including z/OS and/or ISV products) in support of Software Lifecycle Management 

  • Incident / Problem resolution

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience managing a team within a mainframe environment within a large enterprise or equivalent combination of education and experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience 

  • Technical knowledge across multiple Mainframe teams 

  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) to a level of creating documents which can be shared with clients.    

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 

  • Customer Service skills at management level 

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills 

  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  

  • Strong communication skills to liaise with cross-functional teams as well as provide guidance to junior team members. 

Other Qualifications 

  • Ability to perform skill set of a Mainframe System Programmer  

  • Ability to perform complex ISV installations  

  • Ability to perform and lead complex projects  

  • Ability to mentor and show leadership qualities

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role is $85,000 to $148,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that placement in the range may vary based on numerous factors including but not limited to skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. In addition to base salary, other compensation programs, depending on eligibility, include an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, and an equity grant under our Associate Equity Appreciation Program.
