Roles & Responsibilities

  • 1L or 2L Law Student from an ABA-accredited Law School.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills; able to manage time effectively and complete projects on schedule.
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new applications; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and basic knowledge of legal documents.
  • Creativity and confidence to propose new processes or solutions to enhance Calix's legal operations; professional communication skills; ability to work for the full summer break (May-August or June-September).

Requirements:

  • Complete projects related to commercial transactions, business compliance, and focus areas such as regulatory compliance, employment law, intellectual property, AI, information security, data governance and privacy.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to analyze compliance obligations and provide guidance.
  • Monitor legal-technology trends, conduct benchmarking analyses, and create training and guidance documents for cross-functional use.
  • Work with senior in-house counsel and the Enterprise Data Governance team to streamline data in the TrustArc Data Privacy Management System and develop written process documentation for core legal workflows.

Job description

This is a full time, remote Summer Internship that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Calix is looking for a Summer intern to join our Legal team. In this role, you will be part of a unique and award-winning internship program within the company. The program provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning.

If you're eager to learn and have a strong desire to grow and expand your knowledge in the in-house legal world, we're looking for you. This is an exciting opportunity to work under the supervision of the company’s in-house counsel and legal team across several practice areas. The role will involve cross-functional legal work as well as exposure to broader in-house legal department initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Complete specific projects related to commercial transactions and business compliance activities. Depending on experience and interest, substantive focus areas may include regulatory compliance, employment law, intellectual property, AI, info security, data governance and privacy.
  • Collaborate with legal team members to understand and provide analysis of compliance and legal obligations.
  • Monitor and analyze technological trends in legal practices and conduct benchmarking analyses aligned with industry best practices.
  • Document guidance and create training on legal topics to be used cross-functionally within the company.
  • Develop written process documentation for core legal workflows.
  • Work with senior in-house counsel and the Calix Enterprise Data Governance team to streamline data within our Data Privacy Management System, TrustArc.

Qualifications:

  • 1L or 2L Law Student from an ABA-accredited Law School.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Able to manage time effectively and ensure the completion of projects on schedule.
  • Able to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new applications and platforms.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of legal documents.
  • Possess creativity and confidence to suggest new and interesting processes, approaches, or solutions to build Calix’s legal operations.
  • Microsoft Office software suite experience (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).

The base pay range for this position varies based on the geographic location. More information about the pay range specific to candidate location and other factors will be shared during the recruitment process. Individual pay is determined based on location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills and experience.

San Francisco Bay Area:

29.90 - 36.80 USD Hourly

Select US Metros and States:

26.00 - 32.00 USD Hourly

Other US Locations:

23.40 - 28.80 USD Hourly
