Total Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $19.50

About the Position
The Retail Operations Assistant Supervisor oversees the Library Café evening and weekend operation to ensure that all standards are met. The Retail Operations Assistant Supervisor also is responsible for managing operations in the absence of the Retail Operations Supervisor or Retail Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Library Cafe, including opening and closing procedures
  • Supervise Library Café student workers
  • Serve as supervisor in the Dining Center and the Coop during the summer and other academic (non-semester) breaks, overseeing the work of General Food Service Workers, as needed
  • Welcome and greet guests in a friendly and professional manner
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, such as coffees and teas
  • Stock supplies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Address guest inquiries and complaints in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist in developing and implementing new menu items and promotions
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Catering and the Dining Center, to provide exceptional service to guests
  • Adhere to College standards of quality and service, striving to exceed guest expectations at all times

Line of Report: The Assistant Retail Supervisor reports to the Retail Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of supervisory experience in a coffee house or café restaurant
  • Knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and preparation

  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a coffee house or café restaurant in a college or university

  • Serve Safe Certification or ability to obtain certification at the college’s expense within 3 months

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
