  • Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Minimum five years of experience in forensic law enforcement hiring/screening and knowledge of the Office of Personnel Management's federal hiring policies.
  • Experience in reviewing FFDE cases for psychological and psychiatric illness of law enforcement (preferred).

Requirements:

  • Review all documentation provided by the Independent Medical Examination (IME) for adequacy, consistency, and credibility; communicate discrepancies between the IME provider and the Mental Health Reviewing Consultant.
  • Study documents and provide a written recommendation to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) or Nurse Consultant via secure electronic transmission within ten business days.
  • For weapon-carrying/public safety positions, emphasize the employee's judgment and ability to safely perform essential duties.
  • Provide a final written recommendation indicating if the employee is 'Fit' or 'Not Fit' to perform essential duties and address whether the condition is disqualifying, recurrence is possible, and safety risks to duties exist.

Schedule: Part-time with flexibility in scheduling with possibility of full-time 


Position Summary: 

The Mental Health Reviewing Consultant is responsible for performing the psychiatric and mental health consultations and submitting the written recommendations.


Core Responsibilities: 

  • Mental Health Reviewing Consultant shall review all documentation provided by the Independent Medical Examination – (IME) for adequacy, consistency, and credibility. 
  • Any discrepancies or other issues shall be communicated between the IME provider and the Mental Health Reviewing Consultant . 
  • The Mental Health Reviewing Consultant shall review and study all documents and provide a written recommendation to the Contracting Officer’s Representative- (COR) or Nurse Consultant via secured electronic transmission within ten (10)business days. 
  • For employees in weapon-carrying positions and/or public safety positions, the psychiatric physician's evaluation shall give emphasis as to the employee's judgment and ability to safely perform the essential work duties of the employee's position.
  • The final recommendation shall address specific questions by the COR/Nurse Consultant and shall include if the employee is "Fit” or “Not Fit" to perform the essential duties of the assigned position safely and efficiently. 
  • The final recommendation shall address whether: The condition in question itself is disqualifying; The condition’s recurrence cannot be ruled out; and The duties of the position are such that a recurrence would pose a significant risk of substantial harm.



Requirements
  • Must have a current, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
  • Shall have obtained and maintained certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Evidence of a minimum of five (5) years of experience demonstrating knowledge of forensic law enforcement hiring/screening experience and knowledge of the Office of Personnel Management's policies about Federal hiring.
  • Experience in reviewing FFDE cases for psychological and psychiatric illness of law enforcement is preferred.
  • Experience in performing the psychiatric and mental health consultations and submitting the written recommendations.

This job is CONTINGENT upon contract award, client approval, completion of a favorable background investigation, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / High Risk clearance.


Final compensation will be based on relevant factors including work experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity.
