Job Specific Working Conditions:
The Mid-America Region is looking for a dynamic person with YL experience to take on our training associate position. The job description provided below outlines all tasks possible if this was a FT position, but the posted position would be part-time and focuses just on training/onboarding new full-time staff and new team leaders around the region in the basics of healthy YL ministry. The trainer will facilitate monthly meetings for each group, in person and online, following up with individualized meetings as needed. This person will also participate in a few pertinent regional action teams and serve as one of the touchpoints for staff to the regional office. Occasional evenings and travel required.
Position as posted does not require personal fundraising; additional responsibilities/hours beyond 12/week can be discussed with the addition of a fundraising component.
Essential Duties
Spiritual Development – “Following Jesus” includes: Prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
- Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the region, is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Leadership Development – “Equipping leaders, committee and staff.” Includes: Key volunteer care, recruiting, teambuilding and training, supervision and vision casting.
- Create a pipeline for future staff from the region’s student staff program.
- Assist in setting up region-wide interview days for potential student staff.
- Direct or serve on an interview team for the region’s potential staff associates each year.
- Develop a region-wide student staff retreat.
- Promote college work weeks throughout the region.
- Promote summer staff assignments at Young Life properties.
- Resource Development – “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
- Raise personal support as directed by supervisor
- Direct Ministry – “Proclaiming and discipling” includes contact work, club, campaigners and camp.
- As requested by and under the direction of the regional director:
- Provide follow-up for training events such as new staff training, area director school and more.
- Participate in the training of staff associates as requested.
- Develop and administer a regional discipleship weekend for Campaigners.
- Assist area directors in developing work crew training courses.
- Train and supervise a student staff program.
- Develop a philosophy of college town ministry.
- Target specific college/university towns for development of Young Life ministries.
- Assist area directors in the development of Young Life leadership programs in college towns.
- Ministry Support – “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
- Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management, adhering to all Young Life policies and procedures.
- Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry.
- Develop an appropriate system for reporting, expense report responsibilities and the use of regional funds using Young Life accounting applications.
- Accept both short and long-term assignments and projects.
Education
- BA or BS
- MA and/or additional Biblical/Theological course work is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Will include the extremes of a camp assignment, i.e. heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
Qualifications Required For The Job
- Minimum of 10 years in Young Life field ministry.
- Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
