What We're Looking For:
The M&A Manager is responsible for leading the identification, evaluation, and execution of merger and acquisition opportunities that support the organization's strategic growth objectives. This role requires comprehensive financial analysis, strategic market assessment, and cross-functional collaboration to identify and assess potential acquisitions that enhance manufacturing capacity, expand product portfolio, and strengthen competitive positioning.

The M&A Manager will serve as strategic partner to the Director of FP&A and the Global CFO, leading special projects that shape the company's long-term strategic direction.

What You'll Do:

Pipeline Development

  • Identify Opportunities: Proactively scout and evaluate a pipeline of targets to expand manufacturing capacity and enhance our product portfolio.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of industry trends and competitor moves to identify "bolt-on" acquisitions or transformative merger opportunities.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure all potential deals align with the long-term vision of "complementing and expanding" our current market footprint.

Financial Analysis & Valuation

  • Business Case Creation: Build robust, multi-scenario financial models (DCF, Accretion/Dilution, Comparable Company Analysis) to justify investment decisions.
  • Due Diligence: Support the financial due diligence process, identifying risks and synergies that could impact the deal's success.
  • Executive Reporting: Present findings to the Director of FP&A and the Group CFO, translating complex data into actionable executive summaries.

Special Projects & CFO Support

Growth Initiatives: Support the Global CFO on high-impact special projects (including projects beyond M&A), capital structure analysis, funding strategies, and long-range planning.

Ad-hoc Analysis: Provide "just-in-time" insights for board presentations or investor relations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Consultant Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external consultants, investment bankers, and legal advisors.
  • Internal Liaison: Partner with Finance, HR, Legal, and Operations to ensure a 360-degree view of every deal—from cultural fit to legal compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as senior point of contact between technology organization and market business units.
  • Build strong relationships with commercial, operations, and finance leadership.
  • Represent product line perspectives in strategic planning and investment discussions.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting. MBA or CFA preferred.
  • 5-7 years' experience in M&A and/or Financial Strategy / Corporate Development.
  • Expert-level financial modeling (Excel is your second language) and slide deck craftsmanship.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and communicate to the CFO while collaborating laterally with various functions.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is an asset.
  • HVAC industry experience is an asset.
  • This position requires frequent travel to SMARDT's head office in Montreal.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Health and Dental Benefits from day 1.
  • RRSP matching program.
  • A collaborative global environment with opportunities for growth.
