Job description

As a Senior Fire Suppression Designer, you will be a key member of Telgian Engineering and Consulting, working to develop fire sprinkler systems for a broad range of clients across the country. This is a strong team/collaborative environment, and you will work closely with our Professional Engineers to complete projects. You will have the opportunity to design projects outside of NFPA standards, and there are a wide range of nationwide projects.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Fire Suppression Designer, you will independently manage complex or large design projects, as well as mentor Junior Designers and lead design efforts. There is ample opportunity for development within our company, and travel is available, if desired. More specifically you will:

  • Oversees all aspects of system design — from concept to final drawings — with minimal supervision.
  • Perform design verifications, review of information, advanced hydraulic calculations, setup of advanced suppression systems from surveys, asbuilt drawings and past CAD designs.
  • Ensures all designs meet applicable codes, standards (NFPA, IBC, IFC), and client specifications.
  • Print, plot and process drawings for internal and external use.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, often including high-profile or technically challenging work.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers.
  • Revise and edit drawings as needed from QA and AHJ/Client reviews.
  • May assist with proposals, client meetings, and coordination with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirement

  • 7–10+ years CAD design experience in the Architectural, Construction or MEP trade
  • Prior experience in Fire Suppression Contracting Design in the construction field
  • NICET certification in Level III or IV, preferred
  • Prior experience in REVIT and BIM, preferred
  • High School or GED
  • 2 years’ college or specialized training in Fire Protection or CAD Technical School; Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection, Engineering, or CAD, preferred
  • Working competency with MS Office software
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal, written, presentation skills
