What To Expect  

As part of the Insurance Services team, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving company growth through new and renewal business, strengthening client relationships, and managing the sales pipeline. This role requires initiative-taking communication, strategic relationship-building, and effective use of CRM and policy management systems to achieve sales targets and deliver exceptional customer service. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position with standard business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with some flexibility at manager’s discretion. 


What You’ll Do

  • Achieve company growth targets for new and renewal business, ensuring combined book growth and meeting monthly premium, submission, and production goals within an assigned territory. 
  • Establish, expand, and deepen relationships with independent insurance agencies and existing clients to maximize business potential, increase conversion rates, and generate consistent, high-quality opportunities. 
  • Prospect and initiate outbound communication with new and existing agency partners via phone and email, including ongoing follow-up to drive engagement and new business opportunities. 
  • Utilize a consultative sales approach and strategic marketing plan to evaluate agency and client needs, present solutions, address objections, and attract new business. 
  • Manage the full sales lifecycle, including pipeline development, submission generation, tracking large accounts through the submission process, and converting retread pipeline opportunities into active submissions. 
  • Collaborate closely with underwriting and internal teams to ensure submissions are written effectively and production results are achieved. 
  • Provide superior customer service communication, exercising discretion and independent judgment while assisting with agency-level questions and issue resolution. 
  • Perform accurate and timely documentation of all sales activities, including contacts, calls, appointments, submissions, and opportunities, within HubSpot CRM, Nexsure, and other Agency Relationship Management systems. 
  • Meet performance expectations as outlined by KPIs and contribute to ongoing sales strategy execution and territory management. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  
Requirements

What You Need

  • Strong communication skills, including presentation, phone calls, emails, etc. 
  • Must be comfortable with negotiating and leveraging a consultative sales approach 
  • Initiative-taking with a results-driven mindset. 
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude 
  • Passionate, energetic, self-motivated who thrives and can achieve sales goals 
  • Perseveres in a growing, changing, and dynamic work environment 
  • Competitive while working as part of a team 
  • Proven experience in business development or sales within the insurance or related industry. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems (HubSpot) and policy management platforms (Nexsure) 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet performance targets. 
  • At least 1 year of business experience, either in sales or professional services 
  • At least 2 years of sales experience focused on generating outbound calls 

Preferred Experience

  • Workers’ compensation or insurance experience is preferred, but not required

Unless fully remote, this position operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. However, some filing is necessary and may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

$55,000 - $85,000 base + variable comp
