Reports to: Manager of Solution Development

Location: 100% Remote

Compensation: $20/hr
Hours/Duration: Part-time (20-25 hours/week) or(40 hours per week) from Spring 2026 and recruiting for Summer 2026

System Automation (SA) is a software vendor based in Columbia, Maryland, with a focus on providing systems that support government regulatory management operations.

Founded in the District of Columbia in 1968 and originally contracted to develop and support the US Army recruiting system (contract held for 42 years), SA has since become an industry leader in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive information management applications for government regulatory agencies across the country. Our licensure experience began in 1994, providing the Maryland Board of Nursing a licensing solution and has since evolved to support many regulatory needs, including licensing, permitting, enforcement, inspections, investigations, case management, online payments, public verification, robust reporting, online self-service for applicants and license seekers, and paperless regulatory operations.

For nearly three decades, SA has built a solid track record of demonstrable success, delivering SaaS licensure and compliance solutions to government regulatory agencies. SA is currently supporting state government agencies, licensing boards, and other regulatory operations in 22 states for nearly 800 different professions, occupations, and industries.

About the Role:
As a Solution Developer Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced solution developers to help build applications using EvokeTM, our latest cloud-native, low-code application platform (LCAP), while also contributing to internal projects. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn how business challenges are solved with a mix of process automation, configuration, and coding. You will gain real-world experience with low-code development, APIs, JavaScript, and integration concepts—all while building problem-solving and communication skills essential for a career in software or solution development.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Assist in configuring low-code applications through “point and click” tools to automate business workflows.
• Support technical design sessions, documenting data models and solutions via diagrams, user guides, and flowcharts under the guidance of experienced developers.
• Work within development, testing, and deployment standards, and support the improvement of those standards and processes.
• Shadow and participate in internal and client-facing working sessions.
• Take part in peer reviews and contribute to team discussions and solution brainstorming.

What you will learn:

• Project delivery using low-code platforms, business automation tools, agile development, version control, and collaboration tools like Confluence and JIRA.
• Fundamentals of solution design, data modeling, and user experience (UX) considerations.
• Basic API integration and JavaScript customization techniques.
• How to gather and interpret business requirements and transform them into working solutions.
• Working in a professional software development lifecycle (SDLC) with real clients and deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience using diagramming tools to communicate ideas or mockups.
• Curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn new technologies.
• Strong communicator – both verbal and written.
• Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working in teams and collaborating on complex problems.
• Able to manage time effectively and balance multiple tasks.

Required

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or engineering, with coursework completed in object-oriented programming, database design, algorithms, and software development/SDLC.
• Hands-on experience with development environments (e.g., Visual Studio Code) and version control tools such as Git through academic or internship projects.
• Familiarity with JavaScript through coursework or personal projects.

Preferred

• Interest or coursework in low-code platforms (e.g., Power Apps, Appian, Mendix, etc.).
