We’re hiring a Senior Sub-Editor who can uphold the high standards of our newsroom, someone who can strengthen copy, verify the facts and shape crisp, hard-hitting headlines. This role is built for editors who excel under pressure and take responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the stories they publish.

Overview

As a Senior Sub-Editor, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, clarity and quality across all editorial output. You will edit copy, mentor junior editors and work closely with writers to maintain a sharp, engaging and credible news voice.

This role demands speed, precision, strong news sense and the ability to handle breaking stories under tight deadlines.

Requirements

Editing & Quality Control

• Edit and polish stories for accuracy, grammar, structure and style.
  

• Rewrite and enhance content to improve clarity, narrative flow and reader engagement.
  

• Ensure all stories adhere to AP style and internal editorial guidelines.
  

• Craft sharp, SEO-friendly headlines, subheads and captions.
  

Fact-Checking & Verification

• Verify facts, quotes, dates, names, claims and statistics.
  

• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical journalism standards.
  

• Maintain strict accuracy, especially on sensitive or breaking news stories in US politics.
  

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide editorial guidance and mentorship to other sub-editors and writers.
  

• Coordinate with reporters and team leads in the newsroom
  

• Manage the editorial workflow during your shift and ensure timely publication
  

Content Strategy & News Judgment

• Identify strong news angles and trending topics and provide high-impact headlines accordingly.
  

• Uphold the publication’s tone: strong, engaging, fast-paced and authoritative.
  

• Be able to handle multiple major event coverage 
  

• Be able to adapt to dynamic content strategy
  

• Select compelling cover images, ensuring relevance and impact.
  

• Collaborate with writers to enhance story presentation.
  

• Produce clean, engaging copies for breaking news or quick-turnaround stories.
  

• Step in to write or restructure content when required.
  
  Role requirements

• Graduate/Postgraduate in Journalism, Mass Communication or related field.
  

• 4–7 years of experience in sub-editing or copy editing in a fast-paced newsroom.
  

• Proven experience working with digital news, entertainment, politics or global breaking news.
  

• Strong command of grammar, language, syntax and headline writing.
  

• Excellent news judgment, especially under tight deadlines.
  

• Deep familiarity with AP Style, SEO best practices and real-time publishing.
  

• Ability to multitask across multiple stories without compromising quality.
  

• Ability to work in fast-paced publishing environments.
  

• Ability to mentor and provide useful feedback to other sub-editors and writers
  

• Ability to join immediately or at short notice.

• Shift Timing: We have 2 shifts for this role- morning (8 AM - 4 PM IST) and Night (7 PM - 3 AM), 6 days a week, mid-week off.(Shift adjustments may occur based on newsroom scheduling.)
