UX Researcher

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Degree or higher in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Design, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience applying customer-centered research techniques to product definition and design.
  • Experience in the creation and execution of online surveys and qualitative research techniques.
  • Expert knowledge in planning and executing research studies, including developing sample plans and determining the best data collection approach using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.

Requirements:

  • Plan, execute, and drive user studies to uncover, understand, and analyze user behavior; utilize methodologies such as focus groups, contextual interviews, and observational techniques like fly-on-the-wall and shadowing.
  • Identify behavior patterns among users, structure behavioral archetypes, and promote these archetypes across business units; build empathy for user archetypes across the organization.
  • Communicate a holistic picture of the user experience to cross-functional teams and influence product decisions with validated user insights; collaborate with marketing, product, and design teams.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to generate strategic and tactical insights with actionable recommendations; represent customer needs throughout the product and design lifecycle (discovery to validation and adoption).

Job description

This is a remote position.

Responsibilities we’ll trust you with
● Research Planning and Execution
○ Plan, execute, and drive user studies to uncover, understand, and analyze user behavior concerning our products.
○ Utilize various research methodologies such as focus groups, contextual interviews, and observational research techniques like fly-on-the-wall and shadowing.

● Behavioral Analysis and Archetypes
○ Identify behavior patterns among users, structure behavioral archetypes, and promote these archetypes across business units.
○ Build empathy for user archetypes across the organization using various engagement and storytelling techniques.

● Communication and Collaboration
○ Communicate a holistic picture of the user experience to cross-functional teams and identify possible gaps.
○ Work closely with marketing, product, and design teams to identify open research statements and drive product decisions with validated user insights.

● Product Lifecycle Representation
○ Set up and drive repetitive contextual user walkthroughs of products to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
○ Represent customer needs throughout the product and design lifecycle, from discovery through to design validation and customer adoption.

● Adaptation of Research Techniques
○ Apply and adapt appropriate research techniques and methods to meet specific project needs.
○ Engage with customers to understand their unique needs, defining and synthesizing user types, use cases, and specific UX opportunities.

● Influence and Validation
○ Partner with Product Managers and Designers to influence product strategy and roadmaps.
○ Validate feature and design direction through participatory design, early concept testing, and usability testing.

● Data Analysis and Insight Generation
○ Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to generate strategic and tactical insights with actionable recommendations.
○ Communicate findings through artifacts such as user segments, persona frameworks, user journeys, and task analyses.

● Mentorship and Advocacy
○ Provide mentorship to other team members and champion the UX research discipline across the organization.
○ Be a member of our core design team and work closely with product and engineering teams to conduct research and help design experiences.

Requirements

● Qualifications and Experience
○ Degree or higher in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Design, or equivalent hands-on experience.
○ 2-4 years of experience in applying customer-centered research techniques to product definition and design.
○ Experience in the creation and execution of online surveys and qualitative research techniques.

● Research Expertise
○ Expert knowledge in planning and executing research studies, including developing sample plans and determining the best data collection approach using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
○ Strong ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to generate strategic and tactical insights with actionable recommendations.

● Technical Proficiency
○ Experience with remote testing tools and behavioural analytics.
○ Knowledge of user interface design, usability evaluation techniques, task analysis, and experimental design.
○ Ability to quickly learn new technical concepts.

● Portfolio and Communication
○ Strong portfolio representing research that influenced great insights or experiences, including research goals, methodologies, processes, data visualizations, and insights.
○ Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate insights clearly to teams and leadership.

● Insight Translation
○ Ability to quickly turn insights into actionable points for stakeholders, delivering visual reports promptly and efficiently.
○ Excellent skills in communicating findings through artifacts such as user segments, persona frameworks, user journeys, and task analyses.

● Collaboration and Mentorship
○ Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
○ Experience mentoring junior team members and contributing to their growth.
○ Experience in conducting generative research techniques and facilitating design thinking sessions.

● Empathy and Advocacy
○ Build empathy for user archetypes across the organization using various engagement and storytelling techniques.
○ Represent customer needs throughout the product and design lifecycle, from discovery through to design validation and customer adoption.
