Requirements:

  • Prepare weekly project engineering status reports; monitor compliance with regulations and conduct technical analyses (load flow, fault current, arc flash, device coordination) as directed.

About The Role
We are seeking motivated and energetic individuals to join as a Project Engineer to support the construction of several sequential utility-scale battery energy storage projects from late-stage development through commissioning.

The Project Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for esVolta, vendors, and the internal project team. The role is to be the liaison between the EPC contractor’s engineering team, owners, engineers and the esVolta EPC (project, commissioning and engineering) team. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely completion of project deliverables that may include civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation and electrical.


Core Responsibilities
  • Assist management team in completing engineering projects by organizing and overseeing project engineering activities during pre-construction and construction.
  • Support project objectives by reviewing project engineering proposals and design documents and conferring with engineering management and project management during pre-construction and construction.
  • Responsible for maintaining an engineering issues log, RFI log and submittal log during project execution, and identifying project responsibilities and assigning personnel to tasks with definitive due dates.
  • Responsible for reviewing all product and project design specifications by studying product/major material design, customer requirements, and performance standards and ensuring compliance with company design standards.
  • Collaborate with project manager and construction manager on project schedule by studying execution plan and schedule to insure feasibility with engineering activities and specifications.
  • Responsible for reviewing manufacturers’ specifications to determine extent of scope for multiple disciplines of the project and ensuring design documentation and construction documentation are consistent.
  • Responsible for reviewing and recommending engineering expenditures to management for approval during project execution.
  • Participate in regular project team meetings to ensure specific engineering requirements are being met on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for preparing project engineering status reports on a weekly basis by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and recommending actions.
  • Responsible for ensuring project design is in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Complete technical studies, such as load flow, fault current calculation, arc flash analysis, device coordination, motor starting and harmonic studies using ETAP and SKM and prepare cost estimates as directed.
  • Facilitate preparation of design criteria, specifications, datasheets, One-Line diagrams and elementaries for electrical equipment such as PV panels, inverters, trackers, transformers
  • Maintain project engineering budgets and collaborate with project manager on overall project budget.
  • Track performance and analyze the completion of key goals during project execution. Maintain production logs for work put in place for future reference for project engineering lessons learned.
  • Support the inventory and inspection process as major materials arrive to site: inspection, offload, receiving, and storage.
Quality Assurance
  • Responsible for verifying that project execution during construction agrees with all IFC design drawings.
  • Assists third party/IE partners in confirming product performance by meeting with them during site visits and overseeing tests.
  • Document control including management of all IFC and Redlined esVolta prints, manufacturer and as-built drawings.
  • Support the final inspections and punch list process with contractors, vendors, independent engineers and management.
Safety
  • Assist project management and HSE team in developing and executing site specific safety program and activities.
  • Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for safety concerns.
  • Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Serve as resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members.

Skills & Qualifications
  • 4-7 years of experience in electrical engineering, power delivery, substation, transmission line, interconnect, renewable energy or energy storage is required.

  • Familiarity with applicable standards including IBC, NFPA 855, CEC, CFC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, OSHA, and UL.
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage design and technical standards preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Primavera, Microsoft Project, and Smartsheets.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties during stressful situations, and executive level reporting that ensures timely action and decision making in time-pressured scenarios.
  • Willingness to be remotely based and ability to travel or relocate to other project sites.

Compensation, Location & Benefits
The salary offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate. This position is also eligible to participate in our annual bonus program.

This position is classified as remote; however, periodic travel to company offices, project sites or other meeting locations may be required on an as-needed basis.
