Requirements:

Read and translate Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Malay into English
Conduct deep searches on the public domain through engines such as Google and Baidu on individuals and companies (in Chinese and Malay)
Demonstrate proficiency in identifying trends, risks, and relevant insights from publicly available information in the Chinese-language; articulate findings clearly in well-structured written summaries in English
Work independently or collaboratively with project managers and team members under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

Job description

Contract Researcher

Location: Remote

Languages Required: Fluent in Mandarin & Malay (spoken and written) and English

Contract Duration: Starting March 2026, approximately 6 months

Background

The Mintz Group is seeking an inquisitive, detail-oriented Contract Researcher for its Southeast Asia office on a freelance basis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of Mandarin and Malay, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for investigative research. This role will be assisting with due diligence research on individuals and companies through web-based, media and corporate record searches. The contractor will work remotely and manage assignments with a high degree of independence while meeting agreed-upon deadlines.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

As a Contract Researcher, you will be engaged to perform the following tasks/services:

Read and translate Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional) and Malay into English
Conduct deep searches on the public domain through engines such as Google and Baidu on individuals and companies (in both Chinese and Malay)
Demonstrate proficiency in identifying trends, risks, and relevant insights from publicly available information in the Chinese-language
Articulate findings completely in clear, well-structured written summaries in English; highlighting critical or significant details
Work independently or collaboratively with project managers and team members as needed under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following qualifications:

Language Proficiency: Native or highly fluent in both Mandarin and Malay (written and spoken). Strong English writing skills are also required.
Education: Prior work/internship experience in research, journalism, law or finance is preferable.
Experience: Prior experience in due diligence, public records research, or corporate investigations is highly beneficial.
Research Skills: Experience with public records, research databases, open source research.
