Job description

A Carter Lumber Multi‑Family Component/Truss Estimator is responsible for performing detailed material take‑offs and truss‑specific estimating for multi‑family construction projects. This role requires direct experience with truss design, truss layout interpretation, and component estimating. A strong belief in the company's mission and goals, as well as a commitment to exceptional customer service, is essential for this position.

This position requires direct, hands‑on experience in truss design or truss estimating, specifically within multi‑family construction. This is not a general construction estimating role.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience in multi‑family truss design or truss estimating
    • General construction estimating experience alone is not sufficient
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints specifically for truss layout
  • Strong understanding of multi‑family construction standards
  • Familiarity with professional estimating software
  • Proficiency in MiTek truss design software (preferred); ITW/Alpine experience is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Experience in building material sales is helpful
Responsibilities:
Estimating:
  • Perform accurate material take‑offs for multi‑family truss and component designs
  • Review construction documents to determine required materials for bids
  • Identify and correct inaccuracies in truss‑related material lists
  • Interpret architectural and structural plans to generate truss layouts
  • Collaborate with Component/Truss Designers to ensure accurate truss and panel specifications
Field Support:
  • Work directly with outside sales representatives on blueprint interpretation and project details
  • Provide updates on take‑off status and assist sales teams in project selling
