Job description

Surveying Assistant 

Yorkshire and surrounding areas. 

Full time, flexible schedule (3 days site visits, 2 days from home) 

Salary: £30k-36k 

Our client, a growing structural engineering consultancy, is seeking a Surveying Assistant to support continued regional expansion across Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. 

This role offers a balanced mix of site-based inspections and home-based report writing, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety while maintaining structure in their working week. 

You will typically spend three days carrying out residential site visits and two days working remotely to prepare reports and calculations. One day per month will be spent at head office to collaborate with the wider team. 

Surveying Assistant, the role:  

  • Visit residential properties within your allocated region 

  • Follow a consistent and structured inspection process 

  • Identify and record visible cracks, movement and defects 

  • Take clear photographs and accurate measurements 

  • Conduct internal 3D scans using company-provided equipment 

  • Communicate professionally with homeowners and explain the inspection process 

  • Organise site photographs, notes and scan data 

  • Upload and input information into internal systems 

  • Draft structured reports from site findings 

  • Complete required administration 

  • Submit inspection files for review and quality approval 

  • Attend team meetings and training sessions 

  • Participate in quality reviews and receive ongoing support 

Surveying Assistant, the person:  

  • Works carefully and aims to get things right first time 

  • Is comfortable having work reviewed for quality control 

  • Communicates clearly with homeowners 

  • Keeps organised records without being chased 

  • Values being part of a small and supportive team 

  • Housing officer or council inspector 

  • Domestic energy assessor 

  • Insurance or loss adjuster 

  • Clerk of works 

  • Property maintenance or compliance background 

  • Construction or property related experience is preferred, although full training will be provided.
