Job description

PRO IS, Inc. currently has an exciting entry level Underwriting Support Assistant position. This remote role will suit candidates who are looking for a great entry level opportunity with a growing company.  This position is full-time (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday).  We have openings for 9:00 am - 6:00 pm or 10:00 am - 7:00 pm Eastern.  Training must be done during the hours of 8 - 5 EST.

Please note - Pro IS is not an insurance company; we do not do underwriting.  We are an insurance services provider, in the business for 30 years.  This is not a Junior Underwriting position; it is a role that provides support to our insurance industry clients.

Underwriting Support Assistants do parts of the property and casualty insurance underwriting process to support the underwriters at our client companies.  The duties vary depending on which client and part of the process the person is assigned to. We provide the training for our employees on the clients’ systems and processes.   Some of the things they do could include the following.

Entering information about a potential policyholder into the client’s system.

Mapping the property location to the nearest body of water.

Verify that all the other parts of the process are completed and look correct and then combine documents for different parts of the policy to create the final policy document.

Sorting and filtering data in Excel such as states, types of vehicles, payroll, sale, and other information pertinent to obtaining proper insurance rates.

Analyzing and entering the needed information into the system.

Using advanced functions in Excel, such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP, to standardize the data in spreadsheets.  This can include searching for and correcting addresses, so they are in the needed format (for example “123 W Main St” not “123 West Main Street”).

Converting Word and PDF documents into Excel.

Using Google, Google Maps, and Bing to help determine the type of business, finding street addresses, and latitude and longitude of the location.

Using Google Translate to translate documentation provided from our client’s international offices. These may include, but are not limited to, Spanish, Chinese, French, and Portuguese.  Candidates do not need to be bi-lingual.

Candidates need strong Excel skills, good decision-making skills and attention to detail, be accurate with their work, able to use Microsoft Word and Adobe, be organized, and be able to meet deadlines while working with multiple assignments. They also need to be flexible to work in multiple systems at once and work with people with different styles/work output preferences.

We provide the needed computer equipment.  Candidates must have their own reliable and secure high-speed internet access (no hot spots or satellite dishes) to work from home.  Candidates must live in and be able to work from home in the lower contiguous 48 states in the United States of America.
