Job Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Meteorology, this role is responsible for producing & delivering meteorological products and services at a consistently high level that meets the specific demands of DTN's client base in the Asia Pacific Region. The role will provide leave relief to Meteorology Operations. This is a shift working role and involves work outside normal business hours and weekends.

Please note: We’d love to consider everyone, but this role is limited to candidates with Australian Permanent Residency status or Australian citizenship due to compliance and work authorization requirements.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Monitor and analyze evolving weather and climate patterns, highlighting potential impacts for customers.

  • Prepare and deliver accurate forecasts, graphical products, and commentaries for B2B and B2C audiences.

  • Provide customized meteorological briefings by phone or video conference and occasionally support media interviews.

  • Proactively notify clients of significant weather events and ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.

  • Conduct quality checks on meteorological data and forecasts to maintain accuracy and consistency.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, contribute ideas in team discussions, and support the development of junior team members when needed.

  • Participate in continuous training and capability development to stay current with evolving meteorological techniques.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in meteorology, atmospheric science or climatology.

  • Around 2–4 years of operational forecasting experience, ideally with exposure to the Australian region.

  • Analytical skills, including the ability to analyze spatial patterns.

  • A sound understanding of Australian weather patterns and familiarity with the weather forecasting process.

  • Ability to work both independently and flexibly as part of a team.

  • Interest, knowledge and ability to continually develop meteorological knowledge through research of evolving meteorological techniques and reading of meteorological journals.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work successfully under time pressure.

Compensation

The targeted hiring base pay range for this position is between AUD 80,718 and AUD 107,625 annually. DTN is a pay-for-performance organization, which means there is the opportunity to advance your compensation with performance over time. The actual base pay offered for this position will be dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, training/education, transferable skills, business needs, internal equity and applicable laws. The targeted hiring base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for market competitive variable pay and benefits.
