Roles & Responsibilities

  • Must be at least 15 by June 1, 2026 and not older than 18 before August 31, 2026
  • Must be enrolled in school or be a 2026 graduate
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident
  • Must have a valid U.S. Social Security number or have applied for one by the start of the program

Requirements:

  • Work on conservation-related projects to protect, preserve, and restore natural and cultural resources in the Forest Service and participating partners (e.g., restoration projects, trail maintenance, habitat management, invasive species removal, campsite restoration, beach/cleanup)
  • Live on-site for the three-week residential program and collaborate with peers on daily outdoor projects in varying conditions
  • Participate in environmental education, leadership development, personal growth activities, and outdoor recreation during evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrate safety awareness and basic field skills, including the use of hand tools and performing physical tasks as required

In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, MobilizeGreen will offer a residential Youth Conservation Program in the Summer of 2026. The MobilizeGreen-Forest Service YCP program is a three-week residential program where youth ages 15-18 live and work together as a team. YCP Members work on conservation-related projects together during the day and are introduced to environmental education, leadership, personal development lessons, and outdoor recreation activities during the evenings and weekends. The YCP experience is a unique introductory program and can create memories and friendships that last a lifetime! Weekly Stipend is $375 per week.

 

Location:  San Bernardino National Forest, Southern California


Term: 3 weeks; Full-time (40hours per week), on-site

  • Cohort 1: June 7th - 27th, 2026 
  • Cohort 2: July 5th - 25th, 2026 


Duty Station: San Bernardino National Forest (Location subject to change)*


YCP Conservation-Related Work Projects

YCP members will work on a variety of projects that help protect, preserve, and restore the natural and cultural resources of the Forest Service and participating partners. Participants work outdoors, sometimes in difficult conditions, including rain, heat, and mosquitoes. Examples of projects may include:


Restoration Projects and Education

  • Trail Maintenance
  • Habitat Management
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Fire Dependent Ecology and Management
  • Invasive Species Removal
  • Site Beautification
  • Beach/Community Cleanup
  • Campsite Restoration

Eligibility

  • We encourage all youth to consider applying for YCP positions. No experience required. 
  • Must be at least 15 by June 1, 2026, and may not be older than 18 years old before August 31, 2026
  • Must be enrolled in school or a 2026 graduate
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the assigned work with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Have a valid U.S. Social Security number or have applied for a valid Social Security number by the start of the program
  • Selected candidates who are 18 must pass a background check to participate
  • Must be able to obtain a work permit as required under the applicant’s home state laws
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or permanent resident


Physical Requirements:

  • Able to hike about 5 miles a day
  • Able to perform up to 35 hours of physical labor in a week
  • Willingness to learn to use hand tools for digging, sawing, chopping, etc.
  • Occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to experience rustic living and introductory camping
