Job description


OFS is seeking experienced Journeyman FOIA Contractors to support mid‐level FOIA processing for a potential Government client. This role performs independent request interpretation, record searches, exemption application, redaction, correspondence drafting, and full lifecycle FOIA case management.


Journeyman FOIA Responsibilities:
  • Interpret and analyze FOIA requests to identify scope, needed searches, and coordination requirements.
  • Conduct or validate searches for responsive records across VA Service Lines.
  • Apply FOIA exemptions accurately and document justification.
  • Redact records using approved tools and prepare releasable documents.
  • Draft high‐quality acknowledgment letters, interim responses, fee communications, and final responses.
  • Process Simple, Complex, Expedited, and Backlogged requests in adherence with statutory timelines.
  • Support rolling releases and meet production requirements (minimum 500 pages/request/week).
  • Maintain all updates in the eFOIA system and FOIA Request Tracker.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with DOJ OIP guidance, FOIA Improvement Act standards, and VA correspondence rules.
Journeyman FOIA Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of FOIA request processing experience within the last 36 months.
  • Strong knowledge of FOIA exemptions, timelines, request types, and proper application of redactions.
  • Experience conducting or validating FOIA searches.
  • Proficiency with redaction tools and FOIA case management systems.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Associate degree required; additional FOIA experience may substitute for education.
  • FOIA‐related training preferred.
