Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and infrastructure as code to deploy platform software, cloud infrastructure, VMs, databases, and load balancers; create product install automation; implement deploy alerts and integrate with cloud-native services, cybersecurity tooling, monitoring, and ITSM
  • Implement and run operations with best-practice methodologies; define backup and patching policies, organizational unit policies, and monitor resource utilization; respond to alerts and implement changes with regional project teams
  • Provide out-of-hours on-call support on a rota-based schedule; ensure workload builds align with the platform design and maintain tooling consistency across regions; escalate deviations to the Cloud Lead
  • Translate requirements from Product Delivery Units and customers into blueprints; ensure alignment to platform design; identify and log risks and issues related to application support and coordinate automation efforts with regional teams

What you’ll achieve

Dedalus is growing its footprint in offering its products as public cloud hosted managed services.

This requires engineering staff to be able to work with both the Product Delivery Units and customers to take requirements and convert these to blueprints ready for delivery.

This is an operations & engineering role, with expectation that the applicant can write code, python, powershell, json, yaml & AWS Cloud Formation.

The Operations Engineer will work either in the global hub team or as part of the regional spoke. Reporting to the Cloud Delivery Lead.

This role will involve out of hours on call support on a rota-based system.

You will:

Deploy: Responsible for delivering Infrastructure as code.

  • Creation and maintenance of automation scripts to deploy platform code.
  • Creation and maintenance of automation scripts to deploy cloud infrastructure, VMs, DBs, Load Balancers.
  • Creation of product install automation scripts.
  • Execution of this automation to build out customer & internal environments up to the product level.
  • Enhancements & changes to continually improve the scripts as requirements & products change.
  • Defining & Deploy alerting for infrastructure and products.
  • Integration with cloud native services, Cyber tooling, monitoring software and ITSM tooling.
  • Deploy business alerts to ensure changes to specifications or up time schedules are notified and approved.

Run/Operations: Responsible for implementing the best practice run methodologies and advising regional teams.

  • Defining & deploy backup policies.
  • Defining & deploy patching schedules.
  • Defining & deploy Organisational Unit Polices.
  • Monitoring these services.
  • Actioning alerts for all infrastructure components, including network, WAF, Cyber.
  • Monitoring of resource utilisation, recommending changes.
  • Implement changes in conjunction with the regional Ops & project teams.

Essential Requirements:

Degree in Technology field.

Technology: 

  • Knowledge of both AWS & Azure resources available.
  • Knowledge of most common operating systems & database technologies, Windows, Linux, MS SQL, Oracle, PostGres.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes & EKS, including deployment tooling such as OpenShift.
  • Knowledge of implementing public cloud networking mechanics.
  • Knowledge of implementing public cloud polices.
  • Integration with ITSM tooling and other applications.

People: 

  • No people management experience required.
  • Will be expected to be able to communicate well technically and personally with a wide range of internal colleagues and customers, likely where English is not their primary language (a secondary European language is a plus).
  • Will be expected to own their workload, with clear reporting and escalations to Cloud Lead.

Business: 

  • Take guidance & direction from lead engineers on implementation.
  • Work with product & project teams to automate and execute infrastructure & product automations.
  • Work with Product Support teams in region to ensure that alerts are dealt with.

Procedure & Process:

  • Ensure that the execution of workload builds match the overall design of the platform and account structure.
  • Ensure consistent use of tooling across regions.
  • Highlight any non-adherence to Cloud Lead.

Outputs and Deliverables: 

  • Identification, logging and management of Application Support related Risks and Issues.
