Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electric power systems.
  • 3-4 years of experience as a power systems engineer.
  • Experience performing power system impact studies (steady state, short circuit, dynamic stability) using software such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, and TSAT.
  • Knowledge of NERC compliance standards, IBR modeling, and Python programming for automation.

Requirements:

  • Perform detailed bulk power system studies using power system software such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, and ETAP.
  • Conduct IBR modeling (steady state, short circuit, and dynamic stability) in PSSE and IBR operational capability analysis (voltage/frequency ride-through) using PSCAD.
  • Prepare technical study reports and manage data; ensure timely completion of projects while meeting quality and budget objectives.
  • Collaborate in multifunctional teams, mentor junior engineers/interns, and help develop tools, processes, and procedures to enhance study completion.

Job description

Overview:

We are designing the grid of the future! 

Conduct power system studies and analysis for meeting regulatory compliance requirements of existing and future NERC and regional reliability standards. This position will have specific emphasis placed on generating facilities’ planning, modeling, operation and protection system analysis.

Responsibilities:

How you can make an impact:

  • Perform detailed bulk power system studies using various power system software such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, ETAP, etc.
  • Conduct IBR modeling: steady state, short circuit, and dynamic in PSSE
  • Conduct IBR operational capability analysis: voltage/frequency ride-through assessment using PSCAD.
  • Perform assessments for compliance with NERC operation and planning reliability standards.
  • Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed. 
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Process, generate and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies.
  • Identify training needs and present to the management as needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties in relation to client services and deliverables. 
  • Ability to provide on the job training or help overseeing the work of other Power Systems Engineers and Interns. 
  • Execute on multiple studies/tasks at any given time. 
  • Perform complex tasks according to good engineering practice and established procedures. 
  • Capable of autonomously and independently executing on assigned tasks. 
  • Participate in multifunctional teams to obtain/provide input, address client comments, and perform technical studies. 
  • Assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance engineering study completion. 

 

Performance Criteria: 

  • Quality of the study/task completed. 
  • Efficiency in task completion (at or below budget). 
  • Meeting deadlines. 
  • Growth of technical capabilities. 

 

Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Proven knowledge of power system
  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters. 
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills. 
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks. 
  • Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride. 
  • Strong technical report writing skills. 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (and higher) degree in Electric Engineering with an emphasis in electric power systems
  • 3 - 4 years of experience as a power systems engineer
  • Experience performing power system impact studies such as Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability 
  • Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, and TSAT
  • Knowledge and experience with NERC compliance standards, and IBR modeling
  • Experience automating/programing in Python
