Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management department, including managing a team of HIM professionals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimizing health information management processes. Also responsible for collaborating with healthcare providers, administrators, and other departments to promote accurate and efficient documentation, safeguarding patient privacy, and supporting information management needs.

Essential Functions:

-Oversee the management and maintenance of health records, ensuring accurate and complete documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
-Coordinate coding activities, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines (e.g., ICD-10-CM, CPT).
-Collaborate with IT and clinical departments to optimize the functionality and utilization of EHR systems.
-Oversee the release of patient health information to authorized individuals and entities, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.

Qualifications

Education
Associate's Degree Health Information Management required or Associate's Degree Related Field of Study required and Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study preferred
Experience can be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Health Information Management Experience 3-5 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of health information management principles, coding systems, privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and EHR systems.
- Proficiency in coding systems and guidelines, including ICD-10-CM and CPT.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and analyze HIM-related data.
- Proficiency in health information systems and technology, including EHR systems and coding software.
