  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Health Information Management or related field
  • 3-4 years of Health Information Management experience with at least 1 year in a supervisory/management role, plus knowledge of deficiency management practices
  • 2-3 years of Epic EHR experience
  • RHIA or RHIT certification

Requirements:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of HIM areas (Prep/Scan/Index, Analysis, EMPI, Patient Identity, Record Integrity, and Vital Records) with emphasis on efficiency and quality, and monitors KPI results for the Director
  • Oversees personnel management for assigned staff, including interviewing hiring training scheduling coaching evaluating promoting and terminating employees, and represents the HIM Department on designated committees; acts in the Director's absence
  • Oversees Release of Information processes, EMR work queues, Vital Records processes, and maintains forms in the document management system to ensure quality and timeliness
  • Maintains delinquent medical record counts to meet licensure, accreditation, and regulatory requirements

About this Job: General Summary of Position
This position is responsible for the management of the operational and personnel activities of the Prep/Scan/Index areas Transcription area Analysis EMPI Patient Identity Record Integrity and Vital Records area of the Health Information Management Department. The incumbent will be responsible for all personnel assigned to those areas. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health System's philosophy policies procedures and standards. The incumbent will support MedStar St. Mary's Hospital MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center and MedStar Medical Group. This is a hybrid role with on-site presence required each week.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manages and coordinates the day-to-day activities of Prep/Scan/Index Analysis EMPI Patient Identity Record Integrity and Vital Records areas with emphasis on efficiency and quality.
  • Maintains the delinquent medical record count within the acceptable level to ensure compliance with Maryland Licensure JCAHO accreditation federal state and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Monitors Quality Improvement and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reporting results to the Director.
  • Assumes personnel management for assigned department staff to include but not limited to: interviewing hiring orienting training scheduling coaching counseling evaluating promoting and terminating employees.
  • Represents the Health Information Management Department on designated committees as assigned by the Director. Responsible for departmental activities in the absence of the Director.
  • Implements tests and maintains forms in the document managment system/repository.
  • Oversees assigned work queues in the EMR to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Oversees Release of Information processes to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Oversees Vital Records processes to ensure quality and timeliness
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and department. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and is not to be considered as all-inclusive.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree Bachelor's of Science or Bachelor's of Arts degree required
    Experience
    • 3-4 years in a Health Information Management department of which one year should be supervisory/management experience required and
    • 3-4 years Experience and good knowledge of deficiency management practices. required and
    • 2-3 years of Epic EHR Experience required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) required or
    • RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician required
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Thorough understanding of and ability to utilize hospital information systems.
    • Ability to plan direct and manage employee workload and schedules.
    • High level/professional verbal and written communication skills
    This position has a hiring range of : USD $82,617.00 - USD $157,352.00 /Yr.
