Requirements:

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and support EHR interfaces (HL7, XML, X12) and Bridges for the EPIC EHR, and serve as accountable owner for assigned projects
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders, document current and future state workflows, perform gap analysis, and create design specifications, test plans, and project plans
  • Conduct application testing (scenario-based, integrated, and parallel), provide end-user training, and support go-live activities and post-implementation issues
  • Monitor interface performance, troubleshoot Bridges interface issues, participate in change management, and maintain comprehensive documentation

Job Summary:

Responsible for the performance of tasks related to EHR system implementation, adoption, enhancement, and support. This includes but is not limited to analysis, development, training, testing, documentation, go-live and on-going support, problem resolution, and maintenance.

Job Duties:

  • Develops a strong understanding of assigned application(s) and can demonstrate a proficiency in navigating through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Meets with relevant personnel to gather information and observe workflows.
  • Demonstrates the understanding of both the current and proposed workflows and can document the workflows using a flowchart format.  Identifies opportunities and propose solutions to streamline the workflow to gain efficiencies.
  • Produces documentation including current and future state workflows, pros/cons, gap analysis, needs assessments, design specifications, build documentation, test plans, project plans, status reports and transitionary documentation.
  • Performs application testing including scenario-based, integrated, and parallel testing.
  • Applies critical thinking to problem solving and strives to understand the root cause of the issue.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, informaticians, stakeholders, project teams, and leadership. Provides regular updates regarding work status and demonstrates appropriate issue escalation.
  • Completes system build and documentation in accordance with department guidelines and in adherence to change management policy.
  • Actively participates in meetings by being an engaged listener and offering both feedback and input.
  • Prepares training material and conducts training classes in either virtual or in-person settings.
  • Adheres to best practices regarding information security.
  • Participates in team on-call rotation to provide 24x7x365 support to assigned areas.
  • Provides remote and/or on-site support as needed to end-users.
  • Supports system upgrades, patches, and monitoring.
  • Assists in the preparation of department guidelines, standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Participates in vendor review and selection processes.
  • Develops understanding of the integration and technical requirements of peripherals and devices that interface with or integrate with assigned applications.  Examples include laboratory instruments, radiology modalities, medication cabinets, printers, and scanners.

*Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and degree obtained (Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years).

Position Details:

Develop and maintain HL7, XML, and X12 Bridges interfaces for the EPIC EHR 

  • Serve as accountable owner for assigned projects. 
  • Complete operational needs assessments, and identify integration solutions following IT best practice, organizational policy, and ensuring data integrity. 
  • Assist in defining transformation specifications for interface engines. 
  • Complete thorough unit and functional testing. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective implementation planning. 
  • Define threshold monitoring and error resolution procedures 
  • Develop and oversee error management procedures 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation. 
  • Monitor and optimize Bridges performance 

Support System upgrades and updates and data migrations 

  • Analyze integration requirements; complete development as needed 
  • Provide support for testing and implementation planning 
  • Monitor Post live function 

Provide On-call support 

  • Monitor Bridges interface performance.  Assure rapid recovery after planned and unplanned downtimes 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Bridges Interface issues adhering to published SLAs 

Highly Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with HL7, X12, and XML
  • EPIC Bridges Certification

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)
