We are seeking an experienced Commercial Auto Underwriter to manage and grow a portfolio of medium to large, complex commercial auto risks. This role requires strong broker relationships and an in-depth knowledge of regional and national automobile products.
Our ideal candidate would be Canada resident with over 5 years of experience as a Commercial Auto Underwriter, with a strong background in underwriting commercial lines—particularly medium to large-sized, bulk-rated fleet risks. The candidate should hold a CIP designation and possess a proven track record of assessing complex auto exposures across regional and national markets.
Working under limited supervision, you will analyze and underwrite both new and renewal business using our "Way of Underwriting” framework and within delegated authority limits. This is a high-impact role with significant broker and client interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of complex commercial auto accounts.
Proactively identify and pursue renewal and new business opportunities with key broker partners.
Conduct opportunity assessments with distributors to identify growth potential.
Qualify accounts to align with the organization's underwriting appetite and growth goals.
Conduct in-person broker, agent, and client meetings with a defined strategy and purpose.
Negotiate terms and conditions, and close profitable deals.
Cross-sell additional lines of business to increase product penetration.
Participate in regional sales team meetings and strategic planning.
Manage a pipeline of target accounts 90–120 days prior to their renewal or effective date.
Document broker and client interactions, and update account status in internal systems promptly.
Act as the primary contact for assigned key accounts.
Build and maintain a strong broker and client network, particularly in relevant industries.
Accurately calculate target pricing using underwriting tools.
Measure risk exposure and conduct thorough risk analysis.
Mentor and assist in the training and development of junior staff.
Serve as a subject matter expert on coverage issues and support claims and guideline interpretation.
Actively promote company products and services to expand market share within broker channels.
