Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Law Enforcement Advisor-Texas (LEA-TX) plays a significant role in the development and implementation of HTI’s model in Texas. The LEA-TX works alongside HTI’s State Director and Texas team to enhance investigations and prosecutions of human trafficking and related child exploitation cases in partnership with state and local governments. The LEA-TX develops and maintains relationships with government and non-government officials, supports investigative units, conducts assessments, and provides training and mentorship to local law enforcement and other criminal justice stakeholders on human trafficking and related child exploitation investigative best practices. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Training

  • Design and develop training sessions for law enforcement, prosecutors, judicial officials, and key stakeholders. 
  • Conduct training sessions for law enforcement, prosecutors, judicial officials, and key stakeholders. 

Expert Mentorship

  • Advise and provide technical support to law enforcement on proactive and reactive investigative strategies to best address human trafficking and related child exploitation cases, including internet-facilitated exploitation. 
  • Assist in the identification of barriers and gaps in partner jurisdictions’ ability to effectively investigate and prosecute human trafficking and related child exploitation cases. 
  • Assist in the development and execution of strategies to effectively investigate human trafficking and related child exploitation cases.  
  • Work directly with HTI’s State Director-Texas to provide expert insight and assistance in the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking and related child exploitation cases throughout Texas. 

Cultivate Relationships

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within Texas criminal justice systems and with non-government entities throughout Texas engaged in anti-human trafficking efforts. 
  • Communicate HTI’s vision and mission to government officials, practitioners, and other stakeholders.  

Case Data & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed data regarding human trafficking investigations and cases where HTI is involved; create reports for internal use. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  
  • 8+ years of Texas law enforcement experience required. 
  • Experience directly investigating human trafficking and related child exploitation offenses, including internet-facilitated trafficking and exploitation required. 
  • 2+ years of experience designing and delivering training for law enforcement required.
  • Experience training on human trafficking, crimes against children, domestic violence, and/or related crimes, preferred. 
  • Active TCOLE license required or ability to obtain. 
  • TCOLE Instructor Certificate preferred. 

 

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED

  • Ability to develop training materials and create presentations within PowerPoint.  
  • Ability to translate human trafficking-related content in clear and meaningful training sessions.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities or areas for improvement and acts without being prompted. 
  • Cultivates trustful relationships and maintains professional interactions.  
  • Works effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse populations and backgrounds 
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.  
  • Ability to deliver high quality work quickly and with minimal supervision. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time, remote position with required residence in Texas.
  • In-state travel <40%.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
