Job description

About Fisch Group

Fisch Group is a boutique advisory firm providing fractional CFO and accounting to founders, family offices, and private businesses. We work closely with entrepreneurs and principals across a range of industries, including real estate, consumer brands, hospitality, and professional services. Our work is highly hands-on, detail-oriented, and relationship-driven, with a strong emphasis on building clean financial systems and acting as long-term strategic partners to our clients.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Family Office Controller to lead the accounting function across a group of related personal, investment, and operating entities. This role will oversee all bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting, while managing a small team of bookkeepers and serving as the primary financial point of contact for the family office.

This role functions as the financial backbone of the organization — responsible for clean books, strong controls, high-quality reporting, and seamless coordination with external advisors. The ideal candidate is highly organized, discreet, judgment-oriented, and comfortable operating in a multi-entity, high-trust environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you will both do and review the work.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Team Management

  • Own the accounting function across all family office entities
  • Manage and oversee bookkeepers
  • Assign work, set standards, and review outputs for quality and accuracy
  • Ensure consistent accounting policies and documentation across entities

Accounting & Bookkeeping Oversight

  • Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping across multiple entities (LLCs, holding companies, trusts, SPVs, personal entities)
  • Review general ledgers and ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified
  • Maintain clean, accurate books in QuickBooks (or similar systems)
  • Serve as escalation point for complex or judgment-based accounting issues

Cash Management & Controls

  • Track and reconcile cash across numerous bank and credit card accounts
  • Manage intercompany transactions, loans, reimbursements, capital contributions, and distributions
  • Implement and maintain strong cash controls and approval processes
  • Proactively monitor balances and flag anomalies

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Lead month-end close across all entities
  • Prepare and review financial reporting, including:
    • Balance sheets and income statements
    • Cash flow and liquidity summaries
    • Consolidated and roll-up views
    • Net worth reporting (as needed)
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and comparability over time

Trusts, Estates & Advisor Coordination

  • Oversee accounting and reporting for trust and estate-related entities
  • Coordinate with CPAs, tax preparers, estate attorneys, and wealth managers
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for tax filings
  • Act as primary internal point of contact for financial data requests

Systems & Process Development

  • Design and maintain accounting infrastructure and workflows
  • Improve documentation, internal controls, and reporting processes
  • Help scale systems as the family office grows

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or Controller-level roles
  • Prior experience managing bookkeepers or accounting teams
  • Family office, private investment, real estate, or founder-led experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with trusts and estate structures highly desirable

Skills & Attributes

  • Deep technical accounting knowledge and strong QuickBooks experience
  • Excellent reviewer mindset — spots errors, inconsistencies, and risks quickly
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and systems-focused
  • High level of discretion and professionalism
  • Strong judgment and comfort operating with ambiguity

Comfortable owning outcomes, not just executing tasks
