SAP Infrastructure Engineer (ECC Modernization) - Remote Portugal

We're seeking an SAP Infrastructure Engineer for a mission-critical project focused on stabilizing and modernizing SAP infrastructure operations. This role offers you the opportunity to make a tangible impact by reducing patching windows, minimizing operational disruption, and building resilience into a large-scale SAP ECC estate while influencing the strategic direction towards S4/HANA migration.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You'll manage and modernize a large-scale SAP ECC on-premise estate consisting of approximately 100 virtual machines across Production and Non-Production environments. The project focuses on improving security patching processes—increasing frequency while reducing downtime—and enhancing overall system resilience and security. You'll work in a maintenance-intensive environment while identifying opportunities for operational improvements and advocating for process enhancements. The role requires collaboration within a diverse delivery ecosystem including third-party partners (TCS) and internal stakeholders. You'll have technical authority to influence the future direction of SAP infrastructure, Disaster Recovery strategies, and contribute to the long-term S4/HANA migration roadmap. Deep focus on infrastructure security, auditing, system monitoring, and ensuring business continuity across complex environments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• SAP Infrastructure expertise: Extensive experience managing SAP estates with specific focus on SAP ECC on-premise environments
• Operational modernization: Proven track record improving security patching processes, increasing patch frequency while reducing system downtime
• Large-scale environment management: Experience managing complex estates with 100+ virtual machines across Production and Non-Production landscapes
• Security and resilience: Deep understanding of infrastructure security, auditing standards, and comprehensive system monitoring
• Strategic thinking: Ability to work in maintenance-intensive roles while identifying and advocating for value-adding opportunities and process improvements
• Collaboration skills: Comfort working within diverse delivery ecosystems, collaborating effectively with third-party partners and internal stakeholders
• SAP system administration: Strong knowledge of SAP Basis, system architecture, and infrastructure operations
• Language requirement: Fluent English (mandatory for partner collaboration and stakeholder communication)

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Knowledge or early experience with S4/HANA migration projects and planning
• Experience designing and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies across multiple data centers
• Familiarity with database optimization and system sizing for SAP workloads
• Exposure to cloud-adjacent SAP strategies on Azure, AWS, or GCP as part of migration roadmaps
• SAP certifications or formal training in SAP infrastructure management
