Software/PLC Engineer
Vacancy – HydroFlexx – Etten-Leur – 32 to 40 hours per week

Your challenge as a Software/PLC Engineer
As a PLC Engineer at HydroFlexx, you will be responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining control systems for next-generation energy solutions, with a strong focus on maritime applications. Our technology is centred around innovative hydrogen carrier systems, supported by reactor technology and industrial control systems. You play a crucial role in translating complex physical and chemical processes into robust, safe, and scalable PLC-based control solutions.

You will work on the development, testing, and optimisation of PLC software, HMI/SCADA systems, and control systems used in both laboratory setups and operational installations. This includes commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuously improving system performance and reliability. You will closely collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers, as well as lab technicians, to ensure seamless integration between hardware, instrumentation, and control software.

This role combines hands-on automation work with engineering coordination and system-level thinking. You will have the flexibility to work partly from the office and partly from home, while remaining closely involved in on-site testing, experiments, and the ongoing development of our energy systems.

Essential tasks & responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain software for energy and reactor systems
- Develop control, monitoring, and data-analysis tools
- Translate system requirements into robust software solutions
- Test, validate, and improve software in collaboration with engineers and lab staff
- Document software architecture, code, and results
- Contribute to new ideas, prototypes, and experimental setups

Team
You will be part of FlexxGroep, a team of around 10 people. You will collaborate mainly with our engineering team and lab specialists and report directly to the project leader(s). As the company grows, there is plenty of room to expand your role and responsibilities. We have a highly innovative culture, and we have a young and enthusiastic team.

What We Offer
You will join an ambitious, young, and fast-growing company with no rigid hierarchy. Your ideas and initiatives truly matter. If the company succeeds, you will share in that success.
You will work with cutting-edge, patented technology focused on the energy of the future. Innovation is central to everything we do, and we actively encourage experimentation and continuous improvement.
Have a new idea? You can start testing it almost immediately. Where this might take years in large organisations, we believe in trial and error and fast iteration.

In practical terms:
- Every Monday, we train together (boot camp) with a personal trainer
- Every Tuesday, the company provides a free lunch
- Flexible working hours
- Possibility to work from home one day per week
- Starting salary depending on experience and knowledge
- Choice of 32, 36, or 40 hours per week

The ideal Software Engineer
- You have an MBO/HBO in Software Engineering (or a related field)
- Combined with approximately 5 years of relevant work experience.
You are familiar with the following software packages and willing to learn new packages if needed:
1. Tia Portal (Siemens)
2. Allen-Bradley
3. Weintek

You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment and are willing to take on tasks outside a strict job description. In our small company, flexibility is key, and everyone contributes where needed to get the job done. Experience with industrial systems, control software, or data-driven applications is a strong plus.

About HydroFlexx
HydroFlexx, part of FlexxGroep, designs and supplies systems that convert the energy of specific hydrogen carriers into electrical energy or propulsion. These systems are completely emission-free and CO-neutral, primarily for maritime applications but also for other applications. Development and production take place in our own laboratories and production facilities in Etten-Leur.
