Job description

Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO)
Remote Job - Howell Township, New Jersey
Up to twelve (12) consecutive months

Remote Availability: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET
On-site Availability: As needed, for scheduled or ad hoc meetings

The vCIO will serve as a strategic IT advisor, supporting the Township in optimizing technology initiatives, strengthening cybersecurity, managing IT costs, and ensuring effective oversight of current and future projects. This role involves close collaboration with Township leadership and staff to ensure technology aligns with operational and strategic objectives.
The selected vCIO will be responsible for the following:
Strategic Planning: Develop, evaluate, and revise IT strategy in coordination with Township leadership.
System and Vendor Review: Assess current IT infrastructure, vendor contracts, and service agreements; provide improvement recommendations.
Budget and Cost Oversight: Lead IT budgeting, cost control analysis, and assist with RFP development and contract evaluations.
Vendor and Project Management: Offer strategic guidance to vendors and oversee their performance on behalf of the Township.
Cybersecurity and Compliance: Direct cybersecurity strategy, provide incident response guidance, staff training, and ensure regulatory compliance.
IT Project Oversight: Monitor and manage key IT projects, including risk assessment, deliverables tracking, and reporting.
Reporting and Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation on strategic plans, recommendations, and performance progress.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Proven experience supporting municipal or public sector clients
In-depth technical expertise in:
- IT infrastructure
- Cloud computing
- Cybersecurity
- Software development
- Database management
Familiarity with New Jersey state and local government regulations
Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills
A local or regionally accessible presence is preferred for timely and efficient service delivery
