Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced z/OS Senior Performance and Capacity Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the z/OS platform including subsystems, coupling facilities, storage, infrastructure software, and business systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide technical leadership, and drive initiatives to enhance the performance, reliability, and security of our mainframe platform.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead performance and capacity management initiatives across complex IBM z/OS environments.
2. Configure, maintain, and optimize BMC AMI Ops and IBM IntelliMagic Vision for real-time monitoring, trend analysis, and predictive capacity planning.
3. Conduct detailed performance analysis and optimization for infrastructure and business systems to identify and resolve bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency.
4. Collaborate with system programmers, database administrators, application teams, and managed services providers to ensure optimal resource utilization and workload throughput.
5. Develop and maintain capacity models to forecast growth and support business planning.
6. Design and implement performance dashboards, reports, and automated alerts using IntelliMagic Vision, BMC AMI OPS, and alerting tools.
7. Lead root cause analysis for performance incidents and implements corrective actions.
8. Prepare and present performance and capacity reports to senior management and technical stakeholders.
9. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the IT organization.
10. Stay up to date with new technologies, trends, and best practices in mainframe systems, and proactively recommend and implement relevant updates and improvements.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related experience.
2. Extensive experience (10+ years) monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the mainframe computing platform including storage, DB2, CICS, IMS/DB, IMS/TM, MQ, Parallel Sysplex and business systems.
3. Experience in capacity planning, trend analysis, and forecasting for large-scale mainframe environments.
4. Proven experience configuring, managing, and leveraging BMC AMI Ops, IBM IntelliMagic Vision, SMF and RMF.
5. Demonstrated expertise in Workload Manager (WLM) policies and system tuning parameters.
6. Experience providing technical leadership for managed service providers and offshore support teams.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and analyze complex issues.
8. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
9. Proven leadership abilities, including experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior team members.
Additional Requirements:
• Certifications in relevant technologies are a plus.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Willingness to stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Availability for occasional off-hours support as needed.
