Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Create level layouts, hotspots, and points of interest that align with the game's themes and lore while respecting gameplay system constraints.
  • Prototype environments, establish layouts, and optimize use of interactive and non-interactive elements to evoke intended emotions.
  • Iterate on environments to guarantee a great play experience and integrate new elements (AI, sound, gameplay) as the project progresses.
  • Develop design documentation for level progression (flow), layouts, and in-engine 3D block-outs, and prepare playtest materials for QA.

Job description

Nimble Giant Entertainment is looking for a full-time Level Designer.

Our Art team is on the hunt for a talented, dedicated, and passionate Level Designer to join us and help us bring rich, detailed environments to life for our players to explore. You will be responsible for creating game areas and implementing gameplay situations that help us deliver on our creative vision.

At Nimble Giant, we see Level Creation as an interdisciplinary and collaborative process. As such, you will be in constant contact with Environment and Technical Artists, as well as Systems and Content Designers. Responsibilities:

  • Create level layouts, hotspots, and points of interest (POIs) for players to explore according to the game's themes and lore, as well as within gameplay system constraints.

  • Resolve and iterate on game environments to guarantee a great play experience.

  • Prototype the environment, establish the layouts, and suggest ways of using the interactive and non-interactive elements to create the desired emotions

  • As the project progresses, integrate the elements produced on the map (new gameplay, AI, sound, etc.)

  • Develop solid design documentation for level progression (flow), layouts, and 3D block-outs for in-engine playtesting

  • Produce playtest information and requirements to aid QA in the validation and proofing of levels prior to approval. 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years in level design for PC/console, with at least 1 shipped title or strong playable prototypes.

  • Portfolio of first-person levels showing solid combat spaces, exploration routes, and clear player flow.

  • Confident with engine tools (Unreal), from blockout to final, including metrics and simple scripting.

  • Systems-minded level design: create non-linear spaces that simultaneously support core mechanics, ample game features, AI behavior, and offer a high variety of player tactical opportunities.

  • Good understanding of how AI paths, cover, sightlines, and traversal options shape encounters.

  • Able to embed narrative and worldbuilding into levels through layout, composition, and micro-stories.

  • Comfortable iterating based on playtests, feedback, and changing direction.

  • Enjoy designing grounded, atmospheric, interconnected environments (tunnels, corridors, ruined structures, urban layouts, layered verticality)

Nice to Have

  • Bonus: experience with co-op or systemic/sandbox gameplay spaces.

  • Bonus: Visual scripting proficiency, with hands-on experience building gameplay logic in Unreal Engine Blueprints (or equivalent systems).
