Site Resident Engineer (Mechanical & Controls Engineer)

Requirements:

  • Act as the primary on-site mechanical engineering representative for Ethos Engineering, chair site meetings with mechanical contractors to ensure clarity on drawings, specifications, and design intent.
  • Monitor mechanical installations for compliance with specifications and recognised good practice; carry out regular site inspections and produce snagging/defects lists; record daily site activities and progress.
  • Liaise with the mechanical commissioning team to align on programme, risks, and readiness for testing; attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and document compliance; witness site testing and demonstrations for client handover.
  • Manage site documentation and workflows through Procore and Zutec; maintain drawing registers, quality records, variation orders, and mentor junior engineers on site.

About the Role

As a Site Resident Engineer (Mechanical), you will act as Ethos Engineering’s on-site mechanical representative on a complex data centre project in Ireland. You will be responsible for overseeing the installation, quality, and commissioning readiness of mechanical and controls systems, ensuring full compliance with design intent, specifications, Irish regulations, and industry best practice.

This role requires a strong site presence and close collaboration with mechanical contractors, commissioning teams, project managers, and designers. You will play a critical role in driving quality, safety, and programme delivery across all mechanical systems on site.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Third-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Site Engineer on complex construction projects

  • Strong experience within data centre environments or similar mission-critical or industrial projects

  • Experience working with main contractors, subcontractors, or project-based organisations

  • Solid understanding of Irish Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation

  • Chartered Engineer status is advantageous but not essential

  • Must be based in Ireland and eligible to work on site full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary on-site mechanical engineering representative for Ethos Engineering

  • Chair and attend site meetings with mechanical contractors to ensure clarity on drawings, specifications, and design intent

  • Clearly communicate technical information to foremen, operatives, and subcontractors

  • Monitor mechanical installations to ensure compliance with specifications, benchmarks, and recognised good practice

  • Carry out regular site inspections and produce snagging and defects lists

  • Record daily site activities, progress, and key occurrences in site diaries

  • Report on progress of mechanical and controls contractors to the Project Manager

  • Liaise closely with the mechanical commissioning team to align on programme, risks, and readiness for testing

  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required and document compliance with performance requirements

  • Carry out system walkdowns to verify installations align with approved designs

  • Witness site testing and demonstrations to confirm systems are ready for client handover

  • Liaise with project planners regarding construction programmes and contractor outputs

  • Ensure all contractor works are undertaken safely and in compliance with Irish Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations

  • Maintain accurate quality records in line with method statements, quality plans, and inspection and test plans

  • Upload BCaR inspection records and observations to Zutec

  • Manage site documentation and workflows through Procore and Zutec

  • Supervise drawing registers and ensure the latest approved drawings and specifications are in use

  • Provide records in respect of variation orders and site instructions

  • Supervise and mentor junior or trainee engineers on site

  • Assist the Safety Manager in maintaining and monitoring safe working practices

  • Actively manage your own professional development and contribute to team knowledge sharing

Technical Skills & Expertise

  • Broad technical experience across mechanical building services systems, including:

    • HVAC and cooling systems

    • Ventilation systems

    • Domestic and process pipework

    • Process water packaged equipment

    • Drainage systems

    • Control systems (BMS and stand-alone panels)

    • Fire suppression systems (Water Mist, Inergen)

  • Strong understanding of mechanical measurement parameters, including pipework, ductwork, room pressurisation, and control parameters

  • Experience in mechanical QA/QC and installation compliance checking

  • Working knowledge of BIM and 3D coordination, with the ability to use Navisworks as a site review and survey tool

  • Proficiency in site data and document management platforms such as Procore and Zutec

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and site management software

  • Chartered Engineer status is advantageous but not essential

  • Willingness to work on a site-based contract role in Ireland
