POSITION SUMMARY 

University Health Partners of Hawaii is the Faculty Practice of the John A Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). In conjunction with the State of Hawaii's Department of Health - Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, JABSOM and UHP are expanding Hawaii UTelehealth (HUT) to provide access to no-cost addiction medicine treatment for the State of Hawaii. Our new Telehealth Addiction Medicine program is founded on the belief that everyone deserves a path to recovery. We aim to provide evidence-based, patient-centered, and non-judgmental care for individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs), meeting them wherever they are in their journey. 

We are seeking a Peer Navigator, a current or former recipient of opioid use disorder/addiction mental health services who performs a wide range of tasks that are designed to assist consumers in regaining personal control over their lives and over their own recovery processes.

Location: Remote, with travel as required by the job. Residence on Maui preferred.

This is a full-time or part-time position working Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Ideally, the position would work a minimum of 20 hours per week, but the exact number of hours is negotiable.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training/Experience

  • A High School Diploma, or High School Equivalency 
  • One (1) year of experience providing direct services to individuals with opioid use disorder/addiction mental health services or other behavioral health issues, paid or unpaid.
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist in the State of Hawaii (HCPS) AND, 
  • Demonstrates some evidence of opioid use disorder/addiction mental health activity in the past two (2) years (i.e. advocacy, volunteer, support group involvement etc.)
  • Certification as a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Facilitator
  • Driver’s license, preferred. If driving to program or meeting site(s), must have current driver’s license, clear traffic abstract and willingness to use properly insured vehicle. 
  • CPR and First Aid
  • CPI Certification

Skills Knowledge

  • Must have strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with substance use disorders to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent and continuous supports and services
  • Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with substance use disorders and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential. 
  • Requires communicating effectively both orally and in writing in the English language; giving instructions or directions to others; and seeking information from a variety of sources.
