Position Summary

The AI Engineer (Generative AI & Agents) will design, build, and deploy AI-powered systems with a focus on Azure OpenAI, generative modeling, and agentic workflows. This is a junior–mid level, execution-heavy engineering role ideal for someone who is passionate about hands-on development, experimentation, and bringing ideas to life.

You will work closely with domain and technical leads who provide conceptual direction, while you translate those concepts into functional prototypes and production-ready capabilities. Your work will directly support innovation initiatives across medical writing, analytics, and clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and deploy GenAI applications using Azure OpenAI (GPT-4/4o, embeddings, fine-tuning, RAG, assistants).
  • Develop agentic workflows using frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or CrewAI.
  • Implement pipelines for prompts, evaluations, LLM orchestration, and model integration.
  • Translate conceptual ideas into functional prototypes and production-ready systems.
  • Integrate models with internal tools, APIs, databases, and structured/unstructured datasets.
  • Ensure security, privacy, and responsible AI practices throughout development.
  • Apply evaluation frameworks and testing methodologies for agentic reasoning and model reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with domain experts, technical leads, and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 1–5 years of AI/ML engineering experience OR strong project/portfolio work demonstrating capability.
  • Formal degrees are optional if equivalent skill is demonstrated.

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience in Python.
  • Practical experience with Azure OpenAI or similar LLM platforms.
  • Experience with at least one AI/GenAI framework (LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI).
  • Ability to independently build prototypes and iterative improvements.
  • Understanding of LLM fundamentals: embeddings, RAG, prompting patterns, evaluations.

Mindset & Attributes

  • Curious, experimental, and self-driven.
  • Strong problem-solving orientation with a focus on execution.
  • Comfortable in fast-moving, exploratory environments.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with agentic systems or autonomous task orchestration.
  • Familiarity with multimodal models, fine-tuning, or retrieval pipelines.
  • Experience in regulated industries (pharma, healthcare).
  • Exposure to Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with evaluation tools such as Ragas or PromptFoo.

Why Join Synterex

  • Work at the intersection of GenAI, science, and regulated industries.
  • Direct impact on systems used by scientific and clinical teams.
  • R&D-driven environment with strong leadership support.
  • Fully remote within the United States.
  • Opportunities for experimentation, learning, and meaningful ownership.
