Job description

This is a remote position.

  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing & commissioning, energization & project close out) of various utility substation protection (including relays), control and power circuits
  • Review of wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
  • Provide oversite of Contractors and, as needed, Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults
  • Participate in project meetings including but not limited to: kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
  • Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety
  • Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents, as well as all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment


Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or University with a minimum of 3+ years related experience with testing and commissioning services for major Electric Utilities, including protective relays OR An Associate of Science degree with at least 4+ years of utility testing & commissioning experience OR Journeyman Apprentice Program, US Army Prime Power School Graduate/ Training or Navy Nuclear Program Graduate with 5+ years of utility testing and commissioning experience
  • Demonstrated ability to both read and understand construction and manufacturer’s drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams
  • Strong knowledge of (or the ability to learn) electrical protection systems, including relay communication; Basic understanding of (or the ability to learn) AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one line and three line interconnection diagrams
  • Prior professional experience in (or the ability to learn quickly) medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment. Perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision.
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of (or the ability to learn quickly) substation utility protection and control circuits. Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision. Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
  • Role will only provide oversite of contractor testing.
  • Current US work eligibility is required together with a Valid USA driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time
  • Must be available work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and Team

$55-$80 per hour​
