Job Description:
We are seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal with strong experience in Australian family law. The ideal candidate will support lawyers in all aspects of family law matters including divorce, parenting arrangements, property settlements, and domestic violence cases. Previous experience in a remote or outsourced legal support setting is a strong advantage.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and draft court documents, affidavits, and correspondence related to family law cases.
Assist in managing client files including discovery, disclosure, and evidence organization.
Liaise directly with clients with professionalism and empathy during sensitive family matters.
Conduct legal research on Australian family law legislation, rules, and precedents.
Support solicitors in preparing for court hearings, mediations, and negotiations.
Coordinate with relevant parties such as opposing counsel, courts, and external providers (e.g., psychologists, child experts).
Maintain meticulous records and ensure compliance with procedural rules and deadlines.
Paralegal certificate or legal studies qualification (preferably from an Australian institution or with Australian law training).
Minimum 3 years of paralegal experience, with at least 2 years in Australian family law.
Deep understanding of Australian family law including the Family Law Act, parenting and property proceedings, and court processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
Familiarity with Australian legal practice software (LEAP, Smokeball, or similar) is desirable.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment and communicate effectively with remote teams.
