About the role: We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) to join our App team and help build the systems behind one of Europe’s top medical apps. This role is critical in ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability of our backend systems that serve millions of users across Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland. You'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values open feedback, autonomy, and technical excellence.

About the tech stack: TypeScript, Node.js, Nest.js, Python, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Google Cloud Platform, RabbitMQ, REST/GraphQL APIs, Kibana, Grafana.

About your tasks:

• Play an active role in developing new features for mobile app users, designed with high performance and scalability in mind.
• Collaborate with app engineers to define API contracts and optimize data flows.
• Drive backend performance through testing, monitoring, and robust CI/CD practices.
• Architect and develop event-driven microservices using RabbitMQ.
• Build and evolve our Backend for Frontend (BFF) layer to meet mobile-specific needs.
• Ensure software quality through automated tests (TDD/BDD preferred).
• Participate in architectural discussions and technical decision-making.
• Engage in a culture of feedback, openness, and team collaboration.

About you:

• You demonstrate seniority through impact, proactivity, and ownership, not just years of experience.
• You have proven expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and Nest.js, with hands-on experience delivering production systems focused on API-first and scalable architectures.
• You are comfortable with Python, with bonus points for experience in AI/ML-powered personalization or recommendation systems.
• You possess a DevOps mindset, with experience using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• You are experienced in building robust APIs and event-driven architectures.
• You are familiar with security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, encryption, secrets management) and observability tools.
• You value clean code, strong test coverage, and continuous improvement.
• You thrive as a team player in a feedback-driven, collaborative culture.

Our offices are open, but you are free to work from home, from any location in Germany. It is entirely up to you if you want to pop into the office every now and again, or if you work from home all the time.
