Lead Manufacturing Engineer, Fuel Handling

Our client is seeking a specialized fuel handling engineer to join the Fuel Handling systems team to aid design engineers in making manufacturing and construction considerations as a part of design work.
 
The Successful candidate will support design teams by reviewing technical documents, creating technical and strategy documents and will support the Fuel Handling Senior Manager in manufacturing planning, including support in equipment commissioning planning. This role will report to the Fuel Handling Senior Manager and will work alongside other systems design groups.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Support the Fuel Handling Senior Manager in synchronizing design for manufacturing and design for build including support in equipment commissioning planning
  • Review narratives for fuel handling equipment and systems
  • Create flow diagrams for manufacturing, maintenance or operational evolutions
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers in applicable nuclear related design and operations standards.
  • Aid in oversight of fabrication and delivery activities for fuel handling and maintenance equipment such as transporters, tanks, casks, floor valves, adapters, and support equipment.
  • Interface with design disciplines (such as mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and nuclear) to perform manufacturability assessments for equipment and systems.
  • Recommend changes to design to support manufacturing, test or plant construction activities
  • Support design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established. 
Key Qualifications and Skills:
  • B.S. in Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
  • 15+ years work experience with proven nuclear technical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and operation of complex mechanical systems, structures and equipment, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems.
  • Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling or nuclear maintenance process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design is required.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Current or previously qualified nuclear plant operator (EOOW, SRO, STE, or similar) is highly desired
  • Experience working in or managing machine shop operations
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to contribute to a design team’s effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
