Job description

About Samsung Food

At Samsung Food, we’re trying to build a more sustainable future by inspiring home cooks everywhere to tackle holistic health through nutrition and reduce food waste. We’re a fully-owned, independently-operated Samsung subsidiary (acquired in 2019) primed to grow on top of Samsung’s global resources and hardware ecosystem. We are passionate about what we build and who we build for within one of the world’s largest corporations to bring our highly-rated native app experiences to tens of millions of TVs, wearables, and kitchen appliances in the years to come.

We’re a remote-first, globally distributed team of 100+ people based across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and everywhere in between. We’ve been fully distributed since 2016 and pioneered many of the practices which are commonplace in remote workplaces today.

About the Role

As a Product Designer, you’ll join a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team shaping engaging, user-centered experiences across care, health, nutrition, and food at Samsung. You’ll work end-to-end — from research and concept exploration to detailed design and delivery — creating solutions that are intuitive, visually polished, and impactful at scale. In this role, you’ll contribute to the vision for your product area, partner closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers, and help bring connected, proactive, and personalized experiences to life for millions of users worldwide.

This is a full-time contractor role based globally.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to inform product requirements, functionality, market positioning, trends, and user needs.
  • Craft elegant and intuitive user experience solutions, define information architecture, and design interaction workflows that deliver meaningful value to users and achieve business objectives.
  • Manage and oversee delivery of UX solutions to ensure a high-quality final product within agreed timelines and resources.
  • Collaborate in iterative design processes, including rapid prototyping, usability testing, and evaluative research to continuously improve the user experience.
  • Participate in and occasionally facilitate design activities such as workshops, sprints, brainstorming sessions, and design reviews with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Portfolio showcasing examples of your work (and processes such as research, ideation, sketching, Figma files, etc..)
  • Degree or equivalent in design field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience designing for native mobile and web applications
  • Proficient in design tools including Figma, Sketch, After Effects, etc..
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Solid understanding of the end-to-end design process, from discovery and research through to delivery, including information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Experience applying user-centered design methods in collaboration with product managers, engineers, and other partners.
  • Ability to work through complex, sometimes ambiguous problems, using research and data to inform decisions and find practical, user-focused solutions.
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with a portfolio that shows thoughtful design rationale and the ability to deliver polished, production-ready work.
  • Clear communication and storytelling skills to explain your ideas, decisions, and trade-offs to cross-functional partners.
  • Comfortable participating in, and occasionally facilitating, user research and usability testing.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and prototyping tools.
  • Happy to work flexibly across time zones and flourish in a distributed environment (our team is located between West Coast USA (GMT-8) and Korea (GMT+8).
  • A passion for food, cooking, and health and wellness.
  • Experience designing consumer software or apps in health, nutrition, or related domains.

Location

Fully Remote: Work from anywhere with flexibility, though overlap with GMT time-zones is ideal.

What We Offer

  • Contract-based, full-time role (40 hours/week, depending on workload) with a long-term commitment.
  • 100% remote work.
  • Join a supportive and dynamic team. In 2024, Samsung Food was recognized as a Most Loved Workplace® by the Best Practice Institute (BPI) for our outstanding team culture.
