  Job Description:

  We are looking for a dynamic, motivated Deputy Editor to help continue to grow our esports and video gaming coverage. Working closely with the Newsroom Manager and Managing Editor, you will be responsible for delivering timely, insightful, and engaging content, overseeing the daily output of writers, and helping build our portfolio into the goto source for gaming and esports news, features, and analysis.

  This is a handson editorial role where you will be equally comfortable commissioning and editing stories, writing your own pieces, building relationships with key industry stakeholders, and helping to set the strategic direction.

  Responsibilities:
  

  • Publish andor edit a steady stream of esports and gaming content — including news, features, interviews, event coverage, and analysis — to the highest editorial standards.
  • Pitch and produce secondday coverage that adds depth, context, or exclusive insights to dayone stories.
  • Collaborate with reporters, analysts, and subjectmatter experts to create timely, original, and distinctive content.
  • Develop and execute editorial news strategies alongside the Newsroom Manager.
  • Manage the daily publishing schedule and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Edit and factcheck articles for accuracy, clarity, and house style.
  • Maintain a strong network of PR contacts, industry professionals, and community sources to support story development.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to writers, supporting their professional development.
  • Assist in forward planning around major esports and gaming event. .
  • Act as the lead editorial contact in the Managing EditorNewsroom Manager’s absence, taking responsibility for site performance and content quality.
  • Participate in crossteam collaborations to produce multimedia, business, or datadriven stories.
  • Uphold and model best practices in ethical journalism and online conduct

  • Qualifications:

    • Proven experience as a deputy editor, section editor, or journalist in esports, gaming, or a closely related field.
      
    • Ability to motivate a fully remote team, and be leading by example.
      
    • Strong track record of writing and editing compelling, accurate, and timely content.
      
    • Deep understanding of the esports and gaming landscape, including major titles, events, organisations, and industry trends.
      
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and writers in a fastpaced newsroom environment.
      
    • Excellent editorial judgement and attention to detail.
      
    • Confident communicator with the ability to build key relationships with industry stakeholders.
      
    • Comfortable working with various CMS and SEO tools to align with brand strategy.
      
    • Strong grasp of journalistic ethics, factchecking processes, and source development.
      
    • Ability to mentor junior writers.
