Old Mission is a global proprietary trading firm that leverages state-of-the-art technology and research to identify and execute profitable trading strategies across multiple asset classes around the world. Our offices in Chicago, New York, and London are all composed of naturally-curious individuals who thrive in a team environment and constantly strive for improvement.

Old Mission does not seek capital from outside investors, allowing us the flexibility to aggressively invest in our team members and keep them engaged in the firm’s growth.

Operations Analyst - Old Mission Capital

About Old Mission Capital

Old Mission Capital is a leading global quantitative market maker and proprietary trading firm, founded in 2008 with offices in Chicago, New York, and London. Over the past decade, we've assembled an extraordinary team of technologists, traders, and operations specialists dedicated to improving the way markets work. We specialize in dynamically valuing individual securities and complicated derivatives across all asset classes - equities, bonds, currencies, and derivatives - trading trillions of dollars using our proprietary systems and models.

As a privately held firm, we can respond quickly to changing market dynamics, rapidly shifting resources to areas of interest or need. We foster an outwardly competitive culture with a flat hierarchy that respects good ideas, wherever they come from. Our unique risk management approach and supporting technology allows our team to provide superior liquidity and pricing to the world's largest exchanges, brokers, and institutional investors.

About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and technically skilled Operations Analyst to join our growing Operations team and support our multi-asset trading platform. You'll be reporting directly to our Middle Office Manager and working as part of a team that serves as the critical bridge between our trading desks, technology infrastructure, and external partners.

In this role, you'll gain direct exposure to our options, ETF arbitrage, and fixed income trading strategies while working closely with traders, sales staff, accounting, and technology teams. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the inner workings of a sophisticated electronic trading operation while developing both technical and financial markets expertise.

A Day in the Life

Your typical day might include reconciling positions from our global trading sessions, collaborating with our technology team to optimize a new trade workflow, and analyzing market data costs with senior traders. You'll be solving real problems that directly impact our trading P&L and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade Settlement & Client Relations: Work with external counterparties and clearing firms to settle trades efficiently across global markets, handling everything from standard equity trades to complex derivative structures
  • Workflow Implementation: Assist with onboarding new trading strategies and products, creating and maintaining complex data mapping between our proprietary systems and external platforms
  • Reconciliation & Risk Management: Reconcile internal trade and position data versus clearing firm statements, identifying discrepancies and ensuring accurate risk reporting across our global portfolio
  • Process Innovation: Iterate upon and create new operational procedures to scale our trading capabilities as we expand into new asset classes and geographic markets
  • Data & Cost Management: Manage market data vendor relationships and costs with senior team members, optimizing our data spend across vendors such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, and proprietary feeds
  • Cross-Functional Support: Assist accounting with month-end reconciliations and collaborate on building automated tools and dashboards for desk-level reporting

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
  • Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a middle office or related role
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, VBA a plus) and at least one programming language - preferably Python.  This can be through professional experience, personal projects or internships
  • Data Analysis: Experience working with large datasets, understanding data structures, and performing analysis
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when interfacing with external clients and internal stakeholders under time pressure
  • Problem-Solving: High level of curiosity, ability to self-teach, and proactive approach to identifying and solving operational challenges
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy when working with financial data and trade details - errors can be costly in our business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Skills: Experience with Linux command line, SQL databases, and financial data APIs
  • Market Knowledge: Coursework or internship experience in derivatives, fixed income, or electronic trading

What We Offer
