Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic leader to serve as our Director of Insurance Program & Agency Operations. In this pivotal role, you will lead and optimize our entire insurance program and agency operations.  This role requires a strategic visionary who can guide our agency processes, foster strong relationships, and empower a dedicated team to achieve exceptional results.

What You’ll Do (Functions & Responsibilities)

Licensing Oversight

  • Responsible for travel insurance policy delivery, service, and management, including managing and updating approved materials and program descriptions
  • Responsible for monitoring travel retailer regulations and requirements and updating procedures and practices in the agency for certifying, reporting, managing and training authorized retailers under the agency and assisting with documenting related business practices and processes.
  • Responsible for NIPR licensing process and support.
  • Responsible for coordinating with outside Licensing Management provider to ensure licensure and appointment of internal agents.
  • Responsible for working with corporate compliance to support response to DOI inquiries, consumer complaints, and regulatory actions.
  • Lead, organize, implement, and manage ongoing review of client websites to ensure compliance with basic rules for offering travel and damage protection products and services.

Underwriting Oversight

  • Responsible for program underwriter communications and implementing underwriting requirements and processes for screening applicants for coverage approval.
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing insure-tech travel insurance, damage protection and host liability products and related approved materials and program descriptions
  • Responsible for use of proprietary software to prepare coverage, bordereaux and experience reports related to underwriting functions.
  • Responsible for producing, delivering and managing monthly bordereaux and agency premium payment reports.
  • Responsible for leading response to carrier and program provider audits.

Surplus Lines Policy and Reporting Support

  • Responsible for using proprietary and third-party software to ensure timely surplus lines policy reporting and surplus lines tax calculation and payment through these systems.
  • Lead the creation, implementation, and updates of processes to support the timely and accurate delivery and reporting of policies and endorsements.
  • Responsible for accounting regarding payments as they relate to underwriting activities, surplus lines policy and tax reporting and retailer compliance.
  • Responsible for response and resolution to DOI and SLA audit requests.
  • Lead and support data entry projects and tasks associated with the role.
  • Responsible organizing and managing Due Diligence requirements for surplus lines policy placement.
  • Lead other insurance processes related to Agency management including accounting, client management, sales, and service.
  • Lead and cooperate with corporate leadership and department managers in the performance of ad hoc tasks and activities.
  • Responsible for responding to high level questions and escalations related to surplus lines policy details and claims issues.

Strategy and Program Development

  • Works with insurance carriers, MGAs, and internal stakeholders to develop insurance programs that meet the needs of clients, residents, and travelers
  • Build and maintain relationships with insurance carriers and providers
  • Be a subject matter expert for all insurance policies, products, and programs.  Some of the products represented include:
    • Renters (HO4)
    • Tenants Legal Liability
    • Travel Protection
    • Damage Protection
    • Deposit Alternatives
    • Other Personal Lines products
  • Responsible for aligning Agency activities with core corporate-directed sales and business strategy.
  • Lead and cooperate with leadership to enhance existing programs and develop new ones.
  • Lead, organize and manage corporate internal audit response and due diligence request response.
  • Advise leadership on product compliance, product trends, and strategies that ensure regulatory-compliant business practices.
  • Oversee website content and updates.
  • Create and present Quarterly Business Reviews of carrier and agency performance.
  • Conduct industry research and communicate trends
  • Advise and review corporate marketing materials, newsletter content, and other collateral related to the ongoing promotion and distribution of products and services.
Qualifications

What We’re Looking For (Minimum qualifications)

  • 5+ years of leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to manage, mentor, and motivate a team of insurance professionals.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and optimizing insurance programs, including policy administration, claims processes, and compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices (e.g., state-specific licensing, data privacy laws).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery within insurance and agency operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.

Experience working in a start-up or rapid-growth organization

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Insurance credentials preferred
