Job description

Equality Ohio is looking for our next Statewide Advocacy Manager, who will lead and support Equality Ohio’s legislative advocacy at the state and federal levels, working directly with legislators, lobbyists, coalition partners, and community stakeholders. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the communications and local advocacy teams, this role ensures that satelevel advocacy efforts are strategic, coordinated, and communityinformed. The manager will play a key role in shaping and advancing laws and policies that protect and uplift LGBTQ+ Ohioans. Through expert policy analysis, coalition building, and effective advocacy, this position will help position Ohio as a leader in LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with lawmakers, staff, and community leaders, specifically within the Ohio General Assembly.
  • Monitor legislation and take quick action when issues impacting LGBTQ+ Ohioans arise.
  • Draft and present testimony, policy briefs, and advocacy materials.
  • Coordinate with coalition partners to align strategies and maximize impact.
  • Represent Equality Ohio at hearings, press events, and community forums.
  • Mobilize grassroots supporters to engage with decisionmakers.
  • Organize statewide community civic engagement efforts
  • Manage legislative tracking and coordinate the biannual Equality Ohio Legislative Scorecard
    • Requirements

      What We’re Looking For
        • Bachelors degree in Political Science, Public Administration or related field of study preferred, but not required
        • Two or more years experience in legislative advocacy related to the Ohio General Assembly required
        • Experience in advocacy, community organizing, or managing campaigns at the state andor federal level (3+ years preferred)
        • Knowledge of Ohios political landscape and LGBTQ+ policy issues, specifically related to the Ohio General Assembly
          • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—and the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
          • Comfort in highpaced environments and readiness to adapt when priorities shift.
          • Ability to travel occasionally within Ohio and work some evenings or weekends.
