Job description

Role: ASL Language Expert



Language Proficiency: Bachelors Degree in ASL Interpretation or a related field


Duration of the Project: Until the end of May 2026


Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in academic environments


Employment: Freelance contract


Payment Terms: 3045 days from the receipt of the invoice; additional 1 hour paid for transport reimbursement


Scope of Work:
This position is responsible for facilitating communication between users of English (spoken andor written) and users of sign language, including American Sign Language (ASL) and Englishbased sign systems. Interpreters provide individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind with appropriate access to classroom instruction and communication with all school staff and students. Additionally, interpreters assist individuals in learning to use an interpreter, developing selfadvocacy skills, and fostering independence across all settings as appropriate. We require interpreters to be able to hear and understand clearly, if they are deaf, they must have a hearing device that will allow them to listen clearly.



Additional Information:
Interpreting can be onsite or via Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). Interpreters preferably should be based in Columbia, South Carolina.
