Job Description
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineer provides expertise and technical leadership in the design of systems involving momentum, energy, and mass transport.
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer is responsible for performing simulations for aerothermal development, supporting cooling, thermal protection and climate control development. The CFD Engineer will work closely with Thermal Integration engineers, Engine Systems, HVACInterior, Body engineering as well as Advanced Design Engineering and Styling Studio to communicate simulation results and recommendations. The candidate will use several simulation software tools such as STARCCM+, ANSA and TAITherm to perform required simulations.
Detailed job duties include but not limited to:
- Perform vehicle level Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to support AeroThermal Development and assessment including powertrain cooling, HVAC cooling, air induction and thermal protection.
- Work on future vehicle programs with a focus on process efficiency and innovation.
- Proactively develop and carry out CFD simulations for new programs based on vehicle content and functional objectives.
- Work closely with aerothermal integration engineers, release groups and design studios to communicate simulation results and implement design improvements.
- Prepare high quality presentations to communicate simulation results and design recommendations to various groups.
- Ensure CFD model validity and correlation on a continuous basis.
- Make design changes to demonstrate benefits and perform multiple what if studies to guide the design process.
- Fully engage in vehicle development activity and proactively take ownership of simulation activity to best guide the design team.
- Participate in vehicle testing activities to enhance correlation between physical testing and virtual simulations.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience with a commercial CFD software package. Experience using CFD in an industrial setting. Experience with StarCCM, ANSA, and Taitherm is a significant asset.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Solid understanding of fluid flow and heat transfer.
- Knowledgeable about various vehicle systems and subsystems, especially cooling, HVAC & Powertrain systems.
- Exposure to thermal testing and validation is an added plus.
- Experience with JAVA and Matlab programming is an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Educational Requirements:
- Master’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Strong focus in CFD methods, fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
