Job Description

We’re on the lookout for someone who is passionate about Infrastructure back up, and all things related. The individual will be involved in providing high quality Infrastructure backup support to a large multi-client community as part of a customer focused backup support team. They will also support MS Windows server and will need good understanding of Unix and Linux technologies. This individual will play a pivotal role, alongside the rest of the team, to ensure the effective operation and availability of the backup Infrastructure for both external and internal customers.   

Essentially, we’re looking for an individual who will be able to deal with support calls, implement technical change and complete project work for clients (working to contracted SLAs and OLAs). Ideally we’d love someone who could work 2-3 days per week from on of our main offices – and the rest from home. Our offices include: 

  • Bracknell 

  • Hemel Hempstead 

  • Nottingham 

  • Hartlepool 

  • Alderley Edge 

  • Worcester 

     

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

 

  • Providing day to day global operational activities for Backup/Recovery teams including administering Enterprise Backup/Restore and Archival and Retrieval  

  • Utilising good verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills 

  • Ensuring all support calls are dealt with within the SLA timescales 

  • Responsible for capacity planning and performance analysis of backup and recovery infrastructure 

  • Creating and Managing Dataset, Schedule and Retention Policy. Monitoring AVAMAR backups and recovering failed backups  

  • Configuring/Managing VMware, OVM & OSSP backups  

  • Ensuring backup of critical system/application infrastructure via Avamar  

  • Responsible for advanced troubleshooting of Backup/Recovery related issues 

  • Proactive backup maintenance of systems, installing patches, upgrades etc 

  • Carrying out all backups and log checking  

  • Working Independently and managing your own time 

  • Identifying,  interpreting and evaluating system and network requirements 

  • Able to produce reports from Avamar to assist in backup success/failure, capacity planning and consolidation  

  • Occasional travel and work at other NEC Software Solutions sites across the UK as required 

Qualifications

Essential 

  • Most recent role must have been based in backup technology 

  • Extensive Experience with both creating and modifying backup policies and configuring new and existing backup clients 

  • Demonstrable Experience on Enterprise Level Backup Systems 

  • Experience providing support to both internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Hands on experience with Multi Site Replication 

  • Eligible for Security Clearance 

  • Experience or Exposure to Windows 

  • Hands on experience with GUI or CLI 

  • Recent working experience with vSphere 

Desirable 

  • Experience working within an ITIL Environment 

  • Experience or Exposure to Linux 

  • Experience with the support of backup of clients for multiple operating systems (Windows/Linux/OSSP) and applications (SQL/Oracle/mysql)  

  • Hands on experience, or knowledge of Dell Avamar Systems 

  • Experience working within a large scale Data Centre Environment 

  • Basic Understanding of Network Infrastructure – i.e. Routing, DNS
