Description

ABOUT METRC

Metrc is the leading SaaS provider in the highly regulated cannabis industry, delivering innovative solutions adopted by most U.S. jurisdictions. Our mission is to empower our customers with reliable, compliant, and actionable data insights while driving internal excellence through data-driven decision-making. We are seeking a hands-on Director of Data Platform to lead our Data team, reporting directly to the CTO, and shape the future of our data strategy for both external and internal stakeholders.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

As a Senior Product Manager, Data Platform, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of Metrc’s data-driven products, including our data lake (Snowflake, Databricks, Domo, Tableau). Reporting to the VP of Product and collaborating closely with the Director of Data Platform, you will drive the vision, strategy, and execution of data products that deliver exceptional value in a highly regulated environment. This role requires a proven leader with deep experience in data platforms, a track record of delivering complex software products, and the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core duties and responsibilities include the following.

Product Vision and Strategy

  • Define and champion a clear product vision and roadmap for the Data      Platform, aligning with Metrc’s business objectives, regulatory      requirements, and customer needs.
  • Partner with the Director of Data Platform and CTO to ensure data      products support both external customers and internal teams (Sales,      Customer Success, Senior Leadership).
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and customer      feedback to identify opportunities and validate data product ideas in the      cannabis industry.

Product Development and Execution

  • Translate business needs into detailed product requirements,      specifications, and user stories, working closely with data engineers, BI      specialists, and technical product managers.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (Data, Engineering, Design, Marketing)      to deliver high-quality data products, including dashboards, reports, and      analytics solutions, on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the integration of data lake technologies (Snowflake,      Databricks, Domo, Tableau) and potentially transactional databases (SQL      Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) to ensure seamless data flows and      usability.
  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog, balancing regulatory      compliance, customer demands, and internal stakeholder needs with      long-term platform scalability.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the voice of the customer, ensuring data products address      pain points for external users (state regulators, cannabis businesses) and      internal teams.
  • Communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to stakeholders,      including senior leadership, customers, and development teams, to align      expectations and drive adoption.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success Managers and Customer Support to      develop go-to-market strategies and support customer onboarding for data      products.

Performance and Optimization

  • Define and monitor key product success metrics (e.g., adoption,      retention, customer NPS, data query performance) to drive continuous      improvement.
  • Leverage analytics and KPIs to optimize data product performance      and user satisfaction, ensuring compliance with cannabis industry      regulations.
  • Stay current with industry trends, data technologies, and      regulatory changes to enhance the Data Platform’s capabilities.
