Certified Tumor Registrar (or eligible) from the National Cancer Registrar Association is required., An Associate Degree or health information management credentials (e.g., CCS, RHIT, CPC) are preferred., Experience as a health information technician or manager in a Tumor Registry or similar setting is necessary., Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical records science is essential..

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform daily coding and abstracting activities in the Tumor Registry.
  • Identify and record all cases of malignant diseases treated at the Medical Center.
  • Abstract patient information including demographics, cancer history, diagnostics, diagnosis, disease extent, and treatment.
  • Ensure data quality and communicate effectively with medical staff and oncology data coordinators.

Job Description

I. General Summary

  • Under general supervision, identifies, registers, and maintains records of all cancer patients by utilizing the IMPACMRS system. Analyze registry data; disseminate information in accordance with professional ethics. Assure data quality, work effectively and efficiently, as well as consistent and accurate communication with other Medical System staff, the Maryland Cancer Registry and other oncology data coordinators throughout the State.

      • Performs daily coding and abstracting activities of the Tumor Registry area.
      • Identifies all cases of malignant diseases treated at the Medical Center.
      • Abstract information should include at a minimum, demographic characteristics, history of cancer, diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, state, extent of disease and treatment.
